Maximillian Pionus - on its way
Hi all, I have been lurking for quiet a while, absorbing the knowledge and want to introduce myself.

I will be getting a Maximillion Pionus later this year so I am in full swing getting everything together and will be picking everyone's brains.

In the past I had a parakeet and I lost my 15 y.o. cockateil last spring. After her death I waited a couple of months and then decided I missed having a bird too much. After a ton of research my hubby and I decided on a Pionus.

I have a 6 y.o. Australian Shepherd and two house rabbits (rabbits that live inside and are litter box trained). One is a Flemish giant and the other is a Californian.

I have learned so much in the last months from this forum. I learned that I did make mistakes with my former birds but I can be taught. I am also reading all the bird behavior books on Amazon.com. I just finished "My Parrot, My Friend."

To sum it up, I'm excited to get my new bird, and this forum has helped me immensely.

welcome to the forum. their are a lot of knowlegable people here to help you. I wish more people would keep rabbits in the house instead of out in rabbit coops. their social playful creatures and need the interaction and their so easy to toilet train. Do you have a breeder in mind or just reserching the type of parrot. I do not know anything about the pinous I have a quaker parrot. How fun to plan and get a new bird. Alison and Sweetie Pie:D

I have two breeders that I am talking too and I am 99% sure I have narrowed it down to one. They are further away but I get a better 'vibe' off them. Both breeders have eggs due to hatch soon.

I also just got a wonderful cage off Craigslist, it is huge.

And yes, rabbits have such personality. I wish more people would bring them inside and get them fixed so that they could experience their pets better. The rabbits have the run of the house and my Flemish is in charge of everyone - even the dog! When I am away they stay in a large dog pen in their bedroom.

Welcome to the forums. It's always nice to see that a "Lurker" found enough credit and information in the members to finally become a member themselves.

Lol, so excited I think my husband is going to ban the word "parrot" in the house. I put the cage in its place today so it made everything feel real. I also had to expand part of my garden for the extra greens/veggies for the newcomer. I already grow for my rabbits, but my flemish eats so many greens a day I decided to make an extra garden for the bird's food.

Good luck on your new addition...sounds like he or she is going to be well taken care of...Pionus are cool birds..

Congrats and welcome! How exciting, can't wait for pics! The more research I do the more I think I might like to have a pionus someday:)
