Parrots
yellow amazon
Hello,
Im new here and hope to get information on yellow amazon parrots, I also raise pigeons and have for the past 30 years! I have always wanted parrots but couldnt afford one. Seen an ad locally and they had two of the parrot at a price I could afford and went and brought them home, they thought for the past 4 years they were a pair but they are two roosters!

I also ended up with three nice cages and after looking htem up on the internet I was shell shocked! But any way I am 54 and disabled have time now to take care of the birds and a lot of company! they have a large vocabulary and are supposedly 14 years old? dont know about that but they are males!

Like i said I have never had parrots before and both will bite, if you try to take you hand inside the cage! I can feed eithe if them by hand but they will not sit on your hand, shoulder, arm and to be honest if they did sit on my shoulder I might be missing an ear pretty fast!

I aso have a question about strees when I got them one has missing breast feathers? I think it is where they had them together and they fought all the time! I have separated them and the feathers seem to be growing back, but as soon as they do he picks at them?

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the forum, what kind of amazon did you get. Do you have pics?
If you need any advice feel free to ask.

It sounds like your amazon is a plucker, many birds develop this behavior for several different reasons. Diet should be a consideration, as well as stress and boredom. Often times getting a bird to stop once it starts is difficult. The first thing I would do is to have a vet visit to make sure he is parasite free and healthy. Many parrots are cage aggressive and will bite if an intruder enters their space. How are they once you let them out of the cage? Good luck with your boys and welcome.

Hi and welcome to the forum!! It takes a lot of time and patience to work with parrots and to gain their trust. Especially if they have been in a bad situation. So just go slow and give them time to settle in. Make sure the one that plucks has lots of toys to shred.

Hi, I'm very new too, and welcome! This appears to be a very nice forum to share your bird interests and problems too, glad I found it and I'msure you will be too.
