I would first like to introduce myself. My name is Amanda and I am the proud parent of a Pacific Parrotlet who, thanks to his nature, has been given the name Loki.
Now Loki here I bought at a local petstore which didn't seem to care much for him. I was first looking at other birds while I was there, curious to see what there was to offer me. While looking at the finches, I ended up going to the room where all the bigger parrots were kept. Imagine my surprise when looking down towards the floor that I saw a small cage, where this little guy was. He was in the corner of his cage, staring up at me all frightened and shy. He was very timid and I thought that where they has placed him, it wasn't the best place for him. After stepping outside and talking to my parents, it was agreed that I would be able to bring him home. So that is what I did. I ended up buying him and large cage just so that he has enough space for himself, as well as the variety of toys he would be receiving.
Once home and the cage all setup, I put him into it before sitting near it and talking to him for him to warm up to me. It took about three days before the little guy, who I named Loki, had decided to warm up to me. Imagine my surprise when I left the cage open, only to have him fly onto my shoulder.
Its been a little over two years and I must admit that he is such a sweetie. Also he can be crabby at times, he is a cuddlebug and loved to rest on my shoulder and cuddle under my neck, grinding his beak in happiness. He also likes to chirp if he doesn't see me but hears me, as though saying "I'm in here mom.." Although he is still fearful of hands, there has been a lot of progress with him. Recently however, he did injure his legs but is slowly on the road to recovery after before taken to a vet. Even with his injury, he is still as perky as he ever was and willing to please.
With that being said, I say Hello to the fellow Parents.
