Hello...My name is KD, and my Quaker Parrot's name is The "JOLLY" Roger!
I have had a Quaker Parrot only since Feb 2011. I do not know sex or age. If I had to guess, just by intuition, I would guess that JOLLY is a he. Even if he were to be a she, JOLLY's name would still be...JOLLY!!!. It fits!
I adopted JOLLY from a rescue, and I am a newbie at parrot owning. Um, I did have parakeets (budgies) decades ago, but to me that was too long ago to count. They were no where near like JOLLY.
I located this site more than once, and finally decided that this would be a great place to become a member of, as I often have questions regarding JOLLY. I do seek the internet often for information, but still sometimes not content with my efforts.
The rescue that I adopted JOLLY from, the owner is also JOLLY's groomer and a wonderful lady. I ask her questions, and she has been helpful, but is a very busy lady. I am hoping that I will find more contentness being apart of this ParrotForums.com. I am striving to be the best Quaker-Mama that I can be.
JOLLY is quite the little birdie! In most of the time that I have had him he has been solely bonded to me, but he has now accepted two other family members in the last 2-3 months. Which is a plus when at times that I can not be with JOLLY, and I know that JOLLY is being well taken care of in the mean time.
I enjoy of all of JOLLY's antics. We all do. He speaks alittle bit, but is on the soft spoken side. Sometimes it is difficult to understand what he is saying. Then other times his words just sound out as clear as the day. In all, I sure do love this little birdie!!! I am looking forward to further learning, understanding, and caretaking. I do have concerns regarding JOLLY, and I hope that I can locate some answers here.
If you do not know where Yooper Land USA is, it means one of two things...Upper Michigan or Upper Michigan Penninsula. We are dubbed "YOOPERS" from the word "UPPER". Pronoucing the "U" long. We live above the bridge...the great and "Mighty Mackinaw". Known best as the Mackinac Bridge. It connects the Upper and Lower Michigan Penninsulas together. Are you wondering what Lower Michigan is called? Yep, you guessed it! Lower Michigan or Lower Michigan Penninsula. They too have a nicname..."TROLLS". As trolls live below the bridge. Get it? All in clean fun forsure, and no harm meant by any means. In general we are all called Michiganders.
I am looking forward to meeting other Quaker Parrot owners. Maybe perhaps meet some that may live near by in my, very near, surrounding area of zipcode 49829. Otherwise known as Escanaba MI. As I do not travel.
(Es-can-a-ba; all variant short "a" sounds)
Michigan Regards,
