Priscilla -Jenday Conure
My name is Lesley and I am bringing home a baby Jenday Conure who hatched 12/7/11 sometime in the next week or so! I have not owned birds since I was a child so any tips, tricks, or suggestions are welcome!:orange:

Hi there and welcome to our forum. So glad you joined us. We usually suggest a book called Parrots for Dummies. It is a wonderful resource with all kinds of good information. I still have mine and refer to it often.

Welcome to the forum! I also like Sally Blanchard's books. I have some from Mattie Sue Athens that were helpful as well.

Hi I am in VA :). I live in the Rocky Mount area which isn't to far from Roanoke so as far as the net goes we are neighbors :D.

I am also waiting for my first Parrot (actually first bird ever lol) and this book was recommended to me on here. I got it off of amazon for cheap and it is a goldmine of information. I also got a species specific book off of ebay that was very helpful.

That and Roxynoodle mentioned back issues of Bird talk that might be helpful to me when they focused on my breed and I was able to find a Pionus Bird Talk issue for cheap on ebay.

Good luck to you and your baby and welcome to the forum :)

Oh, I'm so glad you were able to find a back issue! It is a nice magazine for getting focused information about a particular species. I still need to go through mine for you and if I find something you would like, I'll send it to you. I did learn more about other species that I had never interacted with from that magazine.

My sister is thinking about getting a new parrot and I've been recommending a Pionus to her as well. She has a 6 year old at home and needs something that would be a good family bird and not too loud.

I actually know where that is! I went to Concord in Southern WV for 4 years so I know a few people around your area. I'll actually be in Roanoke for work training later this month!

Thank you guys for the literature suggestions. I just went and socialized with her again today and the anticipation of beginning her home is getting to me! lol
