Hello everyone - I am so happy to find this forum. I am a new keeper of an 21 year old Umbrella Cockatoo named Sebastian and he and I are just getting to know each other. I kept birds for many years when I was younger; started out with parakeets, then moved to cockatiels, Quaker parakeets, and lovebirds but I always wanted a cockatoo. I had pretty much given up on the dream of a cockatoo and then last year hubby and I went to Parrot Mountain in Pigeon Forge, TN and seeing all the birds rekindled that dream so I came home and started looking. I found Sebastian on Craig's List and when we went to visit he came right to me, crawled up, laid his head on my shoulder and said "I love you." It was a done deal then.
I has some reservations about getting an older bird, but since I have gotten to know Sebastian a little bit I'm very happy we got together. Somebody else did the training for me and did a very good job of it. I absolutely love him. He doesn't have any real problem behaviors now and I really want to take good care of him and make sure I don't cause him to develop problem behaviors.
Which is what brought me here. I have a million questions that are cockatoo specific and hoping to find some of the answers here.
