Hello from Orlando!

Hi everyone, I'm Scott, and share my life with Nika, my rescued BG Macaw. She's believed to be about 15 y/o, and I've had her for about 5 years. I'm a passionate bird lover, having worked at bird stores, make my own bird toys and perches (even for a local bird store), cook meals for my bird, fostered many parrots in the last few years, and even worked as a contracted bird trainer/handler at one point (I was lucky!)-- definitely a crazy bird person here I would love to one day start a non-profit rescue/sanctuary, with an outreach pet therapy program involving parrots. Not sure what else to share here, but this should do for now. I look forward to being an active member of the forum!

A couple of photos... She is super sweet, but she is a bad plucker on certain areas of her body as you can see from the pics. She holds her spoon when she eats her homemade birdie mash, loves to give herself scritches while you scratch her facial feathers all while "under cover" of her wing lol. For awhile I rented an apartment on 10 acres, where I was able to do "a to b" flights with her when she wanted (and it was safe outside- nice weather and no hawks around of course). She's really a great bird, and has a lot to offer.

Hi Sailboat, thanks for the welcome! Her plucking had noticeably reduced but had not stopped. I'm back in the city now and haven't been flying her, other than short flights to her cage. Her plucking has gone up, but moving stress is also a factor. I'm in search of a cleared field where I can work her free flight again. She loves it and so do I.
