I have a Yellow Naped Amazon, Brendle, that I've had for about three years. I also have a Cockateil named Jake. I've had Jake for 12 and a half years. I joined the forum with the hopes of finding someone knowledgeable in bird behavior. Brendle is a biter. He'll bite everyone, anyone. I got him from a woman who was in bad health. She had about a dozen birds so I'm not sure if she was able to devote much time to him. When I got him he would frequently bite, but I was still able to teach him how to wave and turn around. Now his behavior has become much worse. It's come to the point that when I open his cage he'll attack and when I let him out he'll chase my wife, trying to bite her. My wife won't even go near him and says we wouldn't keep a dog if it bit us. I recently watched a documentry on parrots and one of the birds featured was a Yellow Naped Amazon. The couple raised it from a baby but over time it became very aggressive and temperamental. He does have some good days, but they are becoming less and less. I have tried changing his food, giving him different toys and changing his location. Nothing seems to work. Jake on the other hand is no problem at all. We can hold him, play with him; he's extremly docile. We also have two dogs, one is a rescue and two cats. Brendle is our only challenge. Looking forward to learning more about what I can do. Thank you.
