Black Headed Caique
Hello to everyone, I am a soon to be proud owner of two male (siblings) Black Headed Caiques. I have had the wonderful opportunity to be around a BHC several years back and have decided it's time to bring one home. Well, it started as one, and then grew to two. They were hatched in June of 2014, they are brothers and have been together since they were hatched. I'm excited about getting them both. I am heading out to Rochester, NY to "Birds Unlimited" to finally pick them up. I've been waiting to the sexing, and the horrible lake effect snow we've been having, and tomorrow is the big day. Early road trip to get back home and settled. Already have a large King's cage with assorted toys, and a toy buying spree tomorrow. I large Java Wood tree, and a fresh batch of sprouts that are just finishing and going in the fridge in about an hour. I am looking forward to spoiling these little darlings, with the appropriate structure and limits of course. I'm also looking forward to receiving and exchanging knowledge as my experience and wisdom grows. I will certainly be posting pictures once they are settled in and getting comfortable in the next week, as well as picking names.

Hello John, welcome to the forums! Glad you joined us. Congratulations to you and your two BHCs! Looking forward to photos of the little guys.

Congrats! I think caiques are so cute, like little hopping hyper balls of fun! I raised quite a few many years ago for clients and I always enjoyed them. They are so easy to keep entertained with the simplest things. I remember one that loved playing fetch with a wadded piece of paper, would do it for hours!

The only bad thing with them is they don't tolerate other species of birds besides their own very well and some can go through a rough period at sexual maturity but it does get better. They also have that "stimulation over-load" that amazons get where they are just TOO excited and wound up and to push them when they are in over load is a sure way to get bitten. But like amazon's you are given plenty of fair warning at least.:D

Can't wait for the pictures! What names are you thinking?

Hi and welcome fellow Ohioan! How about this weather??? I'm in the NE corner of Ohio about an hour and a half from Cleveland. Can't wait to see pics of your caiques...sounds like you are quite prepared!

The NE Ohio weather is horrible. I was supposed to go last Saturday to pick the boys up, but opted to postpone due to the weather. I used to live about 1.5 hours East of Cleveland growing up - Ashtabula / Conneaut area

Hi John, how exciting! Black Headed Caiques are beautiful. Sounds like you're well prepared, and those babies will be spoiled for sure! :) Can't wait to see pics and what you decide to name them!
