Blue and Gold McCall's (Male and Female)
Hello everyone:
I am the new kid in the cage....I am a 57 year old female that hails from Milford, Del-E-Ware? Yes...from Delaware. I am a Public Service Specialist(Firefighter with Wildfire Credentials, Emergency Management Facilitator, and Professional Driver). In other words ...I am your best friend before, during and after a local, regional or federal emergency. I pride myself in helping people and God's creatures through stressful situations.

I have 2 grown male children (1 was killed in Iraq (Shawn) the other presently serving in the U.S. Air Force (J.D.). I began my military career at age 18 in 1974. I was blessed to have a good life and military career in the U.S. Air Force-Air National Guard and retired with a rank of Major in 2001. I went directly into the F.E.M.A. organization after a short retirement. I am planning to retire in 2016 from this organization. I am very proud to serve the American tax payer as a servant, a guardian of freedom and protector of the pocket book. My units motto "You Call, We Haul...anytime, anyplace, in 24 hours or less with no disgrace." I hope we have lived up to the tax pays expectations.

I my past I have hosted small birds...a few Robins, Blue Jays, Mallard Ducks, Parakeets, a Cardinal and Peach Faced Love Birds. I am fairly new to owning Blue and Gold McCall's. These are rescue birds out of Philadelphia, PA. They were found in bad shape and given to the ASPCA for proper care. I have purchased a better cage and I have found a unique tree limb out in the woods for them to perch on. I am providing a forever home for the birds named Sunny (female age 25-feather pluckier) and Tony (male aged 15-normal). I have had the birds for 7 days. They do bring such noise and joy into my home. I have 3 dogs that also share my home...they are also rescue dogs, well behaved and loved dearly.

I have a lot of questions about the birds, habits, foods and activities. So "your experience" and knowledge with larger birds would be helpful and very much appreciated . I would like to get to know you and your feathered friends. Drop me a line and spend a little time with me and the gang. thanks.:green2:

Yes...I have questions. I have enjoyed the birds now for 7 months...and they have eggs...3 of them. SURPRISE!!!!!!!! The birds have ripped newspaper and thrown it all over the bottom of the cage. I have no box for them...but they are doing well and sitting on the clutch. They come out of the cage for about 10 minutes to stretch their winds and do their business.
My questions are simple. How long before the eggs hatch? Do I need to build a bird box? IF SO what are the measurements? Is the box elevated from the bottom of the cage? I am at a loss. Please help.

Hello and welcome! I don't have macaws so can't be of much help there, but I also wanted to thank you and your children for your service, and to say how sorry I am for your loss.

It's wonderful that you took in Sunny and Tony! I would love to see pictures of them!
