Hello everyone

Wow I just assumed lol. Im an idiot .......
No you're not! You are simply new to the world of keeping parrots; it was indeed an honest mistake. Blue and Golds are absolutely great birds! And from your pictures I'm guessing that Roxy may be able to grow many of her feathers back (with proper care and adjustment).

I'm so glad Roxy now has a dependable, loving home :). Congratulations to both of you!!

So cute! This here is a hyacinth, they go anywhere from $10,000-20,000 here in Canada.

Yea that is quite a bit different. Thanks for not being to hard on me. Either way she does have a good home. I think she is adapting well. Only time will tell .

You've got yourself a BEAUTIFUL B&G. :) I'm only a "bit" partial since I, too, have one of those...and yes, they are AWESOME birds. ;)

And PLEASE don't feel bad in the least. Macs are just great birds all around. I am sure you'll have a BLAST with Roxy in no time at all.

Let the Macaw fun begin. :D

Hesus, Welcome to the forum. It was really nice reading your thread and don't be hard on yourself. you are new to the Bird world. There are so many pure bread and hy brid Macaws in the world, so honest mistake.
The important this here is, you have your macaw home now and their life can only improve from here.

I agree with all that was said on the advise given to you, specially the diet, this is so important.

Just a couple of tips to keep your B&G happy and healthy. Ontop of a great diet, you may want to offer your B&G 1 hard boiled egg with the shell and remove the yoke. This is great for their feather, nails, and beak.
I found it much easier to buy a shower perch that has the sticky cups that you press onto the wall, place your B&G under the shower head and allow them to get used to the shower, your B&G will soon love getting shower, specially around the molting seasons.
After the shower and while your B&G is wet to the bone, apply 100% pure aloe Vera, I use from a size of a dime to a nickle. I rub the aloe into my hands, then wipe both my birds down.
I then use a hair dryer set on low and approx 36 inches away from the birds and allow them to dry.
If you live in a hot climate, the hair dryer is not needed.

Please ask as many questions on this site and you will get great advise. Best of luck Joe

Thanks for the info JJones. I finally finished her day perch this afternoon. Here is a pic. I think tomorrow we will give the shower a try again. I would like to see how she handles the hair dryer. I never thought that would be an option. I learn something new everyday :)

congrats on your new family member and welcome! she is in loving hands :). now is the time to set boundaries and rules for roxy. macaws are known for testing their limits so firm but gentle guidance will ensure a well behaved macaw :). it sounds like roxy has found a great home :0)

I gave her a week with us then yesterday loaded her up and to the vet she went. He said everything looked fine and all he was concerned about was weight. Gave us a diet to get her on and away we went. (Ann)

Last night the wife and kids were having a ball with her. Sherry even held her on her lap and even got to scratch the ole noggin. I think the previous owners gave up a great bird without even trying. If they woukd have know what her personality was they woukd have never sold her.

We moved her cage to the basement last night. This was the first time she didn't squawk when going to bed. Usually she gets mad because she really doesn't like going to bed but she went right in and went right to sleep. I think she was exhausted from the vet and playing with us in the evening.

So far so good.

That's great to hear,
The best way to get a good night sleep is play with them throughout the day to get them tired, that's why interaction is so important.

In no time, your B&G will bond very strong with your Family and sometimes a Macaw selects one person in the Family and bond very strong to them, to prevent your B&G from becoming a one person bird, make sure all Family members have the chance to interact with them, give treats.

Macaws are amazing animals and really show just how much they love their owners. Best of luck Joe

The basement for sleeping was a great move. It really sems like she gets some real sleep and not as cranky when she wakes up. We put her down between 9-10 and get her back up 12 hrs ish later.

She actually sat on the wifes lap last night so everyone in the house is getting to knpw her. Looking forward to the next week.
