Major Mitchell Cockatoo
Hi there, My names Clare and I am from the UK. I have recently met someone that has a Major Mitchell's Cockatoo that was re-homed from a friend of his. She is unintentionally being neglected through his ignorance of birds. I have done a lot of reading on her breed and realize these birds are really hard work and not for amateurs, I can not stress how friendly and lovely she is, whatever life I give her would be an improvement than what she has. I have booked an appointment with the avian specialist vet in Cambridge for her initial check up with me and for me to discuss her needs. I am interested to meet other owners for advice and help on how to give her the best life possible from others experience (I also understand every one is different)

She is self destructing already. I have a young daughter aswell. So I think building her a heated aviary in our garden is a better solution.Thank you for showing me this :)

That would be great if you can provide a aviary for her! Then I would say to go for it! ;)

Welcome to PF! :)

You may want to get a fecal gram stain and blood work, at minimum, from the vets office. A skin/feather biopsy may also be recommended. FDB behaviors can be caused by health related issues (heart failure, organ failure, infection, skin/feather infection, hormones, etc) or even behavioral (stress, boredom...). It really helps to rule out medical problems before addressing behavioral ones!

Foraging and clicker training may also be great things for her to learn!

Hopefully you can help her! And we do have some other MM's floating around the forum, I think!
