Heeeeeelp! Was just given a Galah!

I watch Craigslist occasionally, and see very few Galah. There was an adult for sale for $800, after wifey committed to ours at double that price. Here's a Goffin ad running right now:

"He's 5 years old talks and sweet
Cant give him the attrition he needs .
In cludeds lg corner cage , lg stand carrier
Sm rehomming fee need to be able to pick up cant deliver sorry
Asking re homing fee of 600 for all items ."

I guess if you're semi-illiterate, you won't want to share your attrition. :)

OTOH, there are enough Goffins on CL to make you wonder how well they adapt.

There's even one of these right now:

Well Tame and Beautifull Black Palm Cockatoo for good and caring homes

I almost never see Goffins, or parrots in general in our area. LOTS AND LOTS of dogs and cats. Every area is different. Goffins adapt just fine, thank you very much!

I've never seen a Black Palm for sale anywhere. Literally. No rescue, no CL, nothing. They're as rare as Hyacinths.

Bubblegum - the best way to prevent/encourage unwanted screaming (and you MUST allow them to scream some or you'll have a very depressed bird on your hands. Morning, at night and the occasional "I'm happy to be alive!" screams should never be discouraged) is to IGNORE IT. Any attention is attention. Instead, when your bird is silent, give them a treat. Eventually they'll equate what is "good" behavior because that's the behavior that gets attention, and what is "bad" behavior because that's the behavior that gets them nowhere.

Wenz I cannot believe a galah could cost so much overseas! It is actually quite scary as I now understand why we have such a problem with poaching/smuggling our wildlife.

On the other hand I guess it makes sense as CAG's and Amazons are very expensive here and you rarely see any for sale.

Yes, they are mega money over here!! It must be awesome to see them as Birds in your Garden over there!

I have Seagulls in my back Garden , as I live by the Sea and these are very scarey, intimidating birds :( I have seen them fly straight down and take food out of a toddlers Mouth :11::11:

How much would you expect to pay for a Zon over there, if you were to see one for sale? The most you would pay for a Baby here is around £600.00
