I can't say this was the easiest project I've ever finished, but my quakers, budgies, and cockatiel have needed an entertainment center for too long. I really didn't want a floor stand, the birds have a table top stand but none of them like it. So I got the bright idea to give them a Dr. Seuss version of a hanging play area. I thought it would be easy, haha. I was tired of watching them hang out on the cage tops, although they really don't seem to mind. Sorry, no birds in the photo, the little guys like to give new toys at least a two week cooling off period, I guess they think if it hasn't come for them, eaten them, or changed them into frogs in two weeks, it might be safe.

The gym still needs a few touch ups and I've ordered shreddable toys, but this is the basic idea.

Same gym in all the photos, it was surprisingly tough to photograph. I tried to get Poppy to sit on it just long enough for a photo but she didn't approve of my pony tail and was also too busy to be bothered.

WOW, Allee - you outdid yourself there. What a fantabulous hanging garden!!! :smile015:

I'm certain it will be fully occupied in no time at all. You certainly put a LOT of effort and love into making this. :D

Beautiful, Allee! When you get an inspiration, it really takes you by storm, huh? I wasn't expecting to see this for another week, at least! I bet your little guys will love it!

Ooooh I really love this! What type of wood is that? :D

I'm trying to figure out a safe way to have a hanging gym in my living room. I have a drop ceiling and it's not sturdy enough to hang things from. Might need to bribe my dad to come up with some sort of contraption using my doorways.

Thank you! It's pecan wood. We have an overabundance of it. I thought I'd put some of it to good use. I have really high ceilings so there's actually more room near the ceiling than the floor.

Okay Allee you are amazingly creative, this is soooo pretty! I LOVE it I am sure Harry will as well!

Allee, that turned out fantastic! Shoot, I even want to play on it:) Can't wait til the fids start enjoying it:) So creative!!!

That is so amazing--it's truly beautiful!! Wowza! Do you have pecan trees around you, too? I actually live in what used to be a grove. I see a good use for it now. I love the "flowers".

That's awesome!
Can't wait to see pics of the birds enjoying it!

Thanks for all the sweet words, everyone! You are too kind! I wish quakers were easier to please. Not one single bird touched the new play-stand.

Michelle, pecan trees are very plentiful in Central Texas. Pecan is beautiful wood and the birds like to peel it. The branch I used came off a very old, large tree in my back yard so I know it's safe from pesticides. The flowers were the easy part. I attach them with zip ties so they can be snipped off and replaced easily.

So it turned out, I had lots of unused parts and pieces, a little leftover creative energy and an empty corner, so before I put away my toy making equipment, I built a smaller play area. I'm all done now. The quakers let me know they prefer familiar cage tops to the new monstrosity I put in their room. The budgies spent a lot more of their day inside than outside their open cage. My cute little Sweet Pea couldn't resist the paper flowers on the newest gym.

The top perch is crepe myrtle, the bottom is pecan.

That is an amazing perch, I am definitely inspired now, lol. Great job and you should really be considerate of Poppy's busy schedule, lol!!!! It cracks me up when they don't want to be bothered.

You go, Sweet Pea! Show the others what it's for. :D

GAAAH, Allee, another GORGEOUS creation!!! Multi stories, so many things to play with, and SO beautiful to look at!! :D

Man, Allee, EVERYTHING you make is soooo AWESOME! If I could make things like that and the toys you make, I'd think about quitting my job and making/selling parrot toys/stands, and then I could stay home with my flock! Great job!

Awesome once again, Allee! Your creations are most impressive, my friend.

Here's what the Fids think of their new recreation center. Sorry for the poor photo quality. Harry and Zeke are only in the first pic because Harry super glued her feet to my shoulder and Zeke glared at everybody from the top of the budgie cage. Quakers are hard to please. I'm happy, I thought it would take longer.

Zeke and Harry telling me the whole thing has to go.

The budgies thought it would be safer starting from the top.

Piper claimed the swing after Sweet Pea went back to her cage.

Ohh look how cute that cockatiel decoration is on the....wait.... Oh!! That's Sweet Pea! :D She is so adorable she looks like a little bird doll on the first pic :).

That is such a gorgeous playgym!!
