Happy Thanksgiving

I too wish everyone a nice day. We have so much to be thankful for and so much to work on to be better.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! :D We do not have thanksgiving in SA, but I read it is a festive time and a day for giving.

Do all the neighbors get together like with your pot luck days or is it just family?

Happy Thanksgiving! Generally this day is devoted to gatherings at home for family and friends. This year we hosted in our new apartment for the first time. Lots of food (lots) and kids, and lots of attention for the doggies (they were exhausted!). Its a great day to decorate and set-up for a nice sit down dinner. Then everyone leaves and the clean-up begins! Its one of those great days where everyone is a little bit nicer and friendlier and shares a bit more. Its one of my favorite days, I guess because its a holiday we all have in common. Will.

Hope you all had a lovely day!

I LOVE the sound of thanksgiving as I enjoy having all the family together very much! Alas......

Although today is what is referred to as "Black Friday". The day after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year. Some stores open at 4am and people literally line up to get into the stores. Not one of my favorite days...

Why is it the biggest shopping day and how did it all start? Is it because you tell one another on Thanksgiving day what you want for Christmas?

I wish we had traditions in South Africa, it is the one thing that we REALLY miss out on.:(

Not sure, my cynical side says its because the retail industry decided so... I guess on a positive note, this is considered the official start of the Holiday (or Christmas) season. The season of giving. Some people really enjoy it and plan their day around it... It has just become madness... I think last year one person was trampled and killed when the doors to a Walmart opened. If shopping and bargains is your thing, today is for you!

Personally, I think it's because there's so much going on in the US from Halloween through New Year's, that we (at least my family) try to be sure we get through 1 holiday before we hit the next one. With only about 4 weeks between Thanksgiving and Xmas, we've got to start as soon as we can.

However, it's probaby the retail business that decided this. But even Black Friday is turning into Black Friday Week.

Personally, I don't get any closer to a retail store this weekend than absolutely necessary. So, I'll be staying home with my family all toasty and warm with lots of yummy Thanksgiving leftovers. Cowtown, how about some King Ranch Casserole?
