Haha, we haven't worked our way up to that yet...every other minute seems to be call for a "battle cry" nowadays, with or without toys...mostly without, who needs distractions?
There MUST be something going on if Iggy is screaming constantly everyday ... there has got to be something we missed. I really feel bad for you, I wish there was some sort of advice that we could give to you ...
Yesterday I got home and fed him on his dinner stand like always and put him right next to me so he could see me while he ate. When he was finished eating he sat on the other side of his stand and chilled and cleaned himself...then all of a sudden, he starts what I call his "siren scream" which is just a loud scream every other second....incessantly. I put him in his cage and left him there until bed time...I felt so awful, but I'm at the end of my rope. Also, over the weekend he bit Chase's finger so hard that he broke his nail in half...I tried to play with him the other day and he was ok for a couple of minutes, but then went after one of my cats and then came back to try to eat me! I'm not sure what to do, since it's mid April and nothing is changing, only getting worse. I need a bird whisperer!
Not sure, he has some kind of wheezy thing going on sometimes, a little bit of liquid in one nostril sometimes and right now one is crusty...but I've tested him from here to timbuc II (radiographs, blood work, nasal flushes) and now they just want to cut him open and check for aspergillus plaques on his respiratory system...but his bloodwork (white cells and everything) are perfect, and this has been going on since October and he still eats and plays, so I have no idea what the deal with it is...I'm just not comfortable with them cutting open my bird and taking biopsy samples when all the tests look good. Wondering if he could have allergies or something. If he has a resp. issue don't you think he'd be quieter instead of louder?
I don't know ... one would think. Kinda lilke when humans have a sore throat, we get quieter. I would agree that if there evidence as to why he should be cut open then you shouldn't do so.
Hamlet sneezes regularly, and not like just one, like 3 or 4 at a time, it's funny and it's cute, but it bothers the heck outta me. But the vet said there was nothing to worry about (right now he's curled up in my shirt taking a nap ... ). My vet only said to me, "if it gets worse, let me know" so, I have to think that he's the vet and he's right.
Here's a question about the overall "atmosphere" in your condo ... is your lifestyle loud? Because I know with conures the louder the atmosphere in the home the louder the conure will tend to be. Another thing, where is Iggys' cage? Is it on a wall that is shared by another unit? I have heard stories about bird who have a cage against a shared wall and that kind freaks them out too ...
Really, I am now reaching for the proverbial "straw" here. Trying anything "home-life" related that might be the issue ...
I'm a pretty quiet person, and yesterday the tv was on when he started screaming, but it was on very quietly so that it hopefully wouldn't bother him...I never blare music or yell or anything of that sort...I just kind of sit and study. And since Iggy has decided that he doesn't like the laundry going anymore, I always wait until he goes to bed to do any laundry. Actually, I've changed my whole lifestyle and am afraid to move around in my house in fear of starting a screaming fit...that's probably a bad sign.
He has a large cage in his very own bedroom, on a wall going to the outside of the house. He is almost always on a play gym right in the living room whenever I am home, so that he can be in the same room with us.
Thank you for trying to help me figure out what is wrong with Iggy...I know I have certainly run out of ideas...I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing about how terrible he is.
Not at all, I think that we all are seeing it as a challenge to our collective "expertise" to try and figure out what is going on with this birdie ... 'cause something isn't right, zons don't just scream for any reason ...
Yea, he's a great talker (maybe not like greys, but still). He says hello, hi, Iggy, Ignatius, I love you, tickle tickle, peekaboo, he sings the ants go marching one by one (especially the hoorah part), what, it's ok, bye guys, goodnight, and most importantly "come here". He used to always say "come here" over and over until I came back, which was great because it was a nice communication. Now he still says hello and bye guys and hoorah...but other than that, it's just screaming.
So he has forgone talking/mimicing for screaming huh ... that's strange, usually a bonded parrot will talk to get what they want ... right?! I think I remember that fact ...
That was what happened for over 4 years...now we've regressed. Maybe he's mad that I'm at school/work so much? But I've always been in school since I've had him.
Chase and I have been together for 3 years and before that I was in a 5 year relationship...and sometimes Chase is his favorite and I'm a target...I don't think Amazons are supposed to switch people like that, but he apparently doesn't know that.
Have you changed his diet ... (I mean aside from not letting Iggy have Mac and Cheese anymore ... ... which I don't think would cause him to scream) ... anything different food-wise at all?
no, he's always been on roudybush pellets and steamed frozen veggies. sometimes my mom will send up a special mix for him with sweet potatoes and rice and whatnot, he likes those, but I have no cooking abilities. I moved to my condo in June, then he started being sick in October, and then evil in December...so I don't know if the move could have caused it?
