I like the happy beard on my new and young cockatiel. I was wondering if this is a trait for all cockatiels or only young cockatiels? Does the 1st molting affect the happy beard?

I have never heard of it.
Picture please ?

I don’t know about a happy beard but Fang gets these long, wispy white streamer-like feathers that grow from his lower back. We call it his kinky bumfluff:)

Sounds like a Quasimodo sort of a thing...

Cuter than Quasimodo and no bells involved:)

OK, I am sure I read the phrase "happy beard" somewhere online but have no idea where. When Martini is very happy and content, the puffiness gets so big you cannot even see the beak. But when he is just in a normal mood or excited, you can see his beak very clearly. Since I am still working trust with Martini, I am not going to get a good photo if I get too close. But I did find one online to share.

If your birdie looks anything like the one on google that’s normal. Like anything there will be variations. Your birdie may just have an extra-happy beard. Enjoy ❤️

Now THAT is a happy birdie ❤️

Never heard that term, either, but as it's been said, it's normal! And continues into adult-hood! ;)
