We don't really celebrate Halloween but we do hand out candy. Three years ago was our bulldog Canelo's first Halloween. He's a 70 lb butterball of happiness with teeth, lol. He had to greet everyone and made sure he did squeezing himsel between the door and a leg, ending up in the middle of the kids at the door. Half of them were OK with him, the other half not so good and a small group terrified like the little princess that shrieked bloody murder while her father was loving all over Canelo. Last year we left the front door open, put a child gate up creating a nice barrier, and visibility so the kids could see what was waiting for them. If the kids wanted to get close or pet, they could without getting in the path of Baby Huey. I also found a costume big enough for him so that busted down fear barriers. He was a 70 lb lobster.
This year we are going to do this again, but we have a new addition, Buddy. He loves people and attention so I'm thinking of putting him by the front door so he can say Hello to everyone. His cage rolls so that wouldn't be hard. Canelo will be the lobster, then Chug and Lola the pugs, I'm thinking might have to join in and be pirates. Get it? parrot, Lobster? The nieces and nephews will be coming over to have pizza before collecting candy. I think this officially moves us into full celebration.
The weather can be warm or cold, if it's warm we are sure to have Mosquitos. I'm thinking citronella candles are not good for parrots. I light them outside by our doors to keep the Mosquitos from coming in with pets and people. We are planning on leaving the door open so the fumes will enter the house. Does anyone use mosquito repellents that are safe for birds?
And here's the lobster, I know Ravensgrf loves this butterball, lol.
