Hi! I currently own an african grey, yellow side conure and some linnies. I was wondering if this bird is loud and would get along with my other birds. My african grey is quiet. Is the Macaw aggressive? Does it have any behavioral problems? Any help would be welcomed!!

In my experience, Hahns are great Macaws to start out with. Again in my experience, they tend to form strong bonds with one person. You'll have to work with one from a very young age if you want to break them of this. Mine is inexplicably more friendly with men than women, and can be quite aggressive, though I expect this has to do with his two previous male owners and being a solitary bird for much of his life. As a species, though, they are very individualistic and energetic, you never know how they're going to behave until you've had them for a while. They have a strong bite for their size, but are unlikely to cause the sort of major damage that their bigger cousins can inflict.

As far as talking goes, Hahns are fairly vocal, but I wouldn't expect one to pick up more than a dozen words or so.

As with all parrots/macaws, personalities and behaviors can vary, sometimes greatly. If you are their first human, they'll tend to pick up quirks specific to their relationship with you.

As much as I prefer rehoming birds to buying from a breeder, I'd suggest you go with a breeder and get one young, as they can be unpredictable if they've had previous owners.

I have had my hahns for almost two years and he is a joy....The only thing with him that I have yet to understand is that he doesn't like to be touched...he doesn't even like to be scratched....I don't get it...My lovebird and caique love to be scratched. My hahns will bite if you try to touch him.
The only thing I can do with him is rub his beak....
With all of that being said....he is so much fun....he is a big time talker and loves to be with me, on me......he chatters the day away..He can be pretty vocal at some points of the day but he is so entertaining.
He has chosen me as his main person but he goes to my husband and my oldest son.For some reason, he will have nothing to do with my youngest son but thats ok and we don't push it..
I would recommend one but just know they do have a strong bite and can be a little stubborn.........I love having one. Do lots of homework and reading on this species and you will know if it is right for you.

I've had my Hahn's for a year and a half. He's a character and very much a ONE person bird. Even my wife who's been very patient with him in trying to work with him cannot handle him without a nasty bite. To me he's my best buddy but to anyone else he's an attack-dog (With one exception)... He likes males in their 40's or older. I havent found a single female that he likes at all, but I've had numerous friends in the 40+ category that Birdie would just hop on their finger and sit like a little friend. With all females or any males under 40 he's like a rattlesnake if they come anywhere near him (not sure what sex he is in fact, but I call him a Him lol). Or in fact if someone comes near me and he can't reach to bite them then he'll bite ME!
