Griffin err Mickey?

Griffin this morning said to me 'Morning Mick!' Uh oh so he finally slipped up and revealed his true identity! Doobie ( my other red belly) says 'Morning Doob' and Doobie so I can most likely assume Griffins real name is Mickey! I wonder if he's named after Mick Jagger and she named them after 70s bands or is using Mickey as a nickname for Michael as in Michael McDonald? Or who knows! But it sure is an interesting puzzle.

Both of my Red Bellies are Rehomes owned by the same lady for those that don't know.

Yes, I was surprised! After all this time he finally says his former name! I didn't know they're names when I got them, the workers at the shop didn't know as the woman who owned them didn't tell them. Doobie was the first to tell me his old name and now Griffin/Mickey. I guess I'll call him Mickey and see if it pleases him more than Griffin, if it doesn't seem to matter I might just keep Griffin, we will see!

How funny! Doobie revealed his name early on, and we thought Griffin might never! Like you said, maybe from the Doobie Brothers and Mick Jagger?

I'm calling him both names right now, mainly because I keep forgetting to call him Mickey as much as I call him Griffin. Perhaps I should call him Griffin Mickey? Lol...

It will be interesting to see which name he responds more favorably to if he has a preference.

Thats pretty cool, I mean if my two cents matters maybe he was named Mickey and your other doobie,after mickey mouse and goofy? Maybe hes is mispronouncing goofy/gooby? ( another form of goofy I've heard some people say) then again though depending on how hes saying it d sounds and g sounds can either sound very similar or very different so I guess of course since you're the one who can actually hear it the two are probably very distinct xD Though I do agree Griffin sounds like a very striking name.

Related to this: we noticed that Oscar not only imitates words but also voices. We can trace back which word he learned from my wife or from me. And some words he knows in two voices (like Oscar nom noms ), and we are not even sure if he knows they are the same thing(!).

But one thing he says is clearly in a voice (and accent) that we don't recognize. It's distinctly different, and consistently so.

It's when he says: "step up". I am 99.9% sure that's the voice of his breeder. He will never have said it back then - he was there for his first 3 months and only started talking after 9, but it probably stuck in his mind (imprinted?), so that's the voice he uses now for this particular command, even though he hears it from us all the time.

Griffin/Mick/Miffin/Grick might possibly not yet recognize "Mick" or "Mickey" coming from your voice - if my theory that words and sounds are heavily linked in their brains is correct.

My 17 year old Red Belly Female also imitates different voices. Red Bellys are so great to own. Very independant, but also loving good interactions with the owner. My 5 month old Meyers is just starting to talk, and he is learning it from my Red belly.

He turns his head to me right away when I call him Mickey and it seems like he sees me as someone more familiar to him. He's still a grumpy bird however but I knew that going in. Him and Doobie are polar opposites!
