Grey schedules

I'm home for 48 hours and gone for 36 hours, would a grey be ok with that if my girlfriend opens the cage while I'm gone so it can get some out of cage time? Or will this just end up bonding those two and be left out?

Wow, that's a crazy schedule. I'm not really sure... I think it would depend on how dedicated your girlfriend will be, is she willing to change food, water, fresh veggies as needed? Does she actually like birds and be able to really give your bird attention?

She has experience and is going to get a macaw. She changes out my Conures water while I'm not home and I buy my Conure fresh fruits to supplement the pellet diet. But my other problem is I don't want to spend that kind of money and feel like its not even mime because it takes to her. I guess that just depends on the bird. My Conure prefers me but I spend most of the time I'm home messing with her and talking to her and my girlfriend just does what needs to be done while I'm gone, that way my bird doesn't abandon me lol

African greys can also be a 1 person bird, that can be fixed with proper training/

And what is your girl friends schedule?

She works 5 days a week from 6 to 2 in the evening. And that's what I'm afraid of it abandoning me.

I work nights while my husband works days, and I'm the one who gives my senigal all the attention. That said, I am sooo not the favourite person.

My husband is like a treat, the 'fun parent'. The amount of time doesn't matter, we get along great, but as soon as he comes through the door I'm not good enough.

I'd say your best bet is to search for an older grey and look for that special connection, then you arn't playing the odds, and it has a much better chance of bonding with you.

Any time you bring a parrot home there is always a chance of it bonding to someone else in the house hold. You may get a grey and the girl friend a macaw and they end up taking to each other. The birds live in the household and they should be looked at as household pets. If you and the girl friend are not looking at spending a life time togther may be hold off untill your life is a little more stable.

The plan is to stay together from now on, the only time we aren't together is when one of us is at work. If I buy a grey I'm buying local so hopefully one just really likes me. With the exception of an IRN I had all the birds I have had has preferred me. The IRN didn't much care for me or my girlfriend but took an instant liking to the people I sold him to so I was glad he got a good home.
