I recently acquired a Green Cheek Conure female, age unknown. A elderly neighbor has had her on his porch since spring. He will soon be moving to another state and asked if I wanted her. I have never owned a bird like this before. I have other birds, I raise quail, a variety of chickens, and doves but this girl is my first inside bird. Looking for help and guidance so I do right by her. She seems lonely so I am looking to eventually get another Conure for her.

She isn't friendly, and tries to bite me when I stick my hand in her cage. Doesn't seem to be very socialized. But then again I have only had her for a day, so we are still feeling each other out.

Hi Welcome!

I'm not a super expert, I've only had my not-tame conures for a little over a month now but we came a long way already!

This is a very good webinar and really helpful!

I started with my birds by giving them treats through the cage bars. I started with sunflower seeds but try different treats. Be patient and calm. If she's still too fearful for that I would just start with calmly talking to her and offering her nice foodies in her bowl. (Mine love apple and berries)

I have kind of a set day routine. In the morning I (slowly) uncover the cage and happily greet them ("good morning birdies" etc) followed by a change of water, pellets and fresh apple or berries. In the evening I have a cover the cage "goodnight" routine. In the afternoon we have out-of-the cage time and in between I give them treats through the bars.

What kind of cage and perches does she have?

Welcome to the forum! I'm sure with time you guys will become great buddies!

Thank you all! I actually drove 6 hours round trip yesterday to pick up a friend for the one I was gave. They are currently in separate cages feeling each other out and chatting away.
