Greeting for Dubai, UAE

Hello all! My name is Yagen and I LOVE BIRDS!! haha. Well my love for them started while working at Miami Seaquarium, I took care of 39 exotic birds. Red-Lored Amazon, Yellow-Nape Amazon, Orange-Winged Amazon, Hyacinth Macaw, Green-Winged Macaw, Scarlet Macaw, Blue & Gold Macaw, Ruby Macaw, Catalina Macaw, Hans Macaw, Yellow-Collared Macaw, Goffins Cockatoo, Moluccan Cockatoo, Sulfur Crested and Umbrella Cockatoo! They were all rescues from people smuggling them into the country illegally and were wild caught. I trained them all to be handled and some to even do husbandry work voluntarily. Since then I have LOVED birds. It has been years since I worked at MSQ and have wanted to own a bird. But I have patiently waited and I think the day is almost here. I am Cuban-American, my family and I migrated from Cuba to Miami,FL when I was 7 years old. I am now 25 and I have been living in the Middle East for almost 2 years. I lived for 8 months in Kuwait and I moved to Dubai about 8 months ago. My husband is US Contractor and I am currently a stay at home wife (soon... babies... ???) =) In Kuwait it was extremely illegal to have any pets imported back to the US, but living in UAE it is completely legal, depending the nationally of the bird. There is still a list of countries. I have to be very careful when purchasing this bird, as you may all know he will outlive my husband and I. We want a Macaw, I would love a Scarlet, but here its a bit more difficult to be picky, so We are probably going to get a Blue & Gold. Hopefully within a week I will have some pictures for you guys. If anybody has ever imported a pet from an International country to the US and went thru the whole quarantine and permits, any help would be appreciated!!!! Nice to meet all of you!! Although I consider myself to be a semi-bird expert, I have never been a real mommy of a bird, so I will need all the help I can get!!!

:blue1: << Hopefully Soon!!!
:red: LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

Welcome to the forum:)

Congrats on your soon to be new Macaw.

We have lots of Macaw Owners that will be able to give you some great advice.

Look forward to seeing pics.

Welcome to the forum. Wow, you had a very interesting job when you got to work with all those birds! I own 2 macaws, but I am no expert on the subject. I don't have any experience with international shipping either. All my parrots were hatched in my state.

Will look forward to seeing pics of your soon to be baby.

Welcome to the forum. I have imported pet amazons into the US as a US citizen living in Panama. This was many years ago but many of the same rules apply. Do you have family in the US now? If so i would think it might be possible to get exit permits for a CITIES listed bird that was their pet. A loop hole you could use. Miami is about the cheapest place to buy macaws that i know of. We have a bird show near Orlando this Sunday where i've seen babies selling for 500-700 USD. Hybrids a little more.

Welcome and congratulations on your soon to be birdie friend! I don't have any experience with international buying/importing but maybe someone here does~ I have a friend in Dubai he loves it there!

I'm sorry I can't help you concerning international import/export information. I've only been involved with shipping birds within the United States.

Best of luck!

(We have a very small car) he is a 1 year old B&G Macaw! My husband is very excited, I told him he has to get used to ghe biting.... LOL I will post pictures soon!!! :blue1:
