Green Wing or B&G?

One question...When we start actively looking for a bird and still can't decide...what about getting a Harlequin? I know they are a hybrid and ive heard they are the best of gw/bg and then again the worst gw/bg. Yes I know socialization is important and so on.

Once you are actively looking, why not get the one that picks you? It may be a GW, a B&G or a Harlequin....of course it's also entirely possible that neither will pick you.

But you will cross that bridge once you get there. :)

I went with a harlequin yes he is a clown and he can be sweet. But he is still a Mac and a large bird and he will occasionally test the boundaries and be grumpy like all macaws. The reason I went with the harlequin was partly based on the recommendations of the breeder. Originally I was attracted to a camalot, but the breeder knew his birds and their personality. With a young child and the two birds personalities he felt the harlequin was a better fit for my family. I spent time with him and decided that he was a good fit.
The breeder also had two GWs, their beaks and over all sized seemed a little overwhelming to my wife and we wanted a bird that we both felt comfortable with so we ruled the GWs out.
I heard the same thing that harlequins are the best of both species, but how do you really know. Every bird has their own personalities and temperaments, I come to believe they need to be raised right from the start. Spend time with any birds you are interested in and get as much info from the breeder. Hopefully they know their birds well.

Well I just can't wait until we start looking...curse you Virginia and your ridiculously expensive houses! But if a Harli does chose us, would it not be ideal to start with a hybrid as a first macaw or would it be ok since its a first gen, or doesn't it matter? Once gain I know about socialization and their boundary pushing. But I heard somewhere that hybrids aren't good for first time macaw owners. Oh and If we got a green wing...I heard they can disassemble a cage, just like a hy. What cage do you guys use that have green wings?:red1::blue1:

I have a Kings double macaw cage...

Minus the treat cup door latches... (She didn't want to go back into her cage to eat, so she removed them. After awhile I got tired of reinstalling them only to hear them clunk to the floor five minutes later.)

There are all sorts of anti-hybrid biases out there... so, consider the source.

A mush mac is a mush mac...
