Hello,
I am writing because my green cheek seems to have injured her foot.
She is only 2/12 months old, and currently weighs 63g.
My wife says the bird was on the top of the cage as she was opening it ( it's a top open cage, that has a perch that braces the doors open.) and as she bent down to get the perch to brace the doors open she heard it fall and make a loud noise and at the same time the bird flew across the room and landed on the couch.
On inspection the feet look symmetrical, the one that may be injured is bit orangish but that has been true for the past few days, I have attributed it to her feeding herself red peppers and strawberries with that foot.
She has been clearly trying to stay off that foot, tucking it away instantly when perched or still. At the same time she has also been climbing around and playing with a ball in her cage.
The vet's office is closed, I don't think this is an emergency as the bird seems very happy to climb around, eat, drink, and play. Also the bird doesn't seem to react negatively to touch with the foot in question.
We will take her to the vet in the morning if she still appears hurt, but was curious to hear if anyone has any experience with birds and injured feet.
I am hoping it is just a sprain, it has been an hour and a half since the incident.
Thanks,
-K
