Is there a certain time limit to how long you can keep a flight suit on a parrot? We are taking a 9 hour trip in a rental so we cant have him pooping in the car. Or does anyone know of a strong cleaner that gets poop out instantly?

Why not have him in a carrier cage? Then he can have food and water easily available too... I wouldn't imagine it being very comfortable sitting in his own poop for that long =/

I'm not 100% certain how a flight suit would stop a bird from pooping in the car...? Also, have you ever put a flight suit on your bird before? I know my bird couldn't hardly stand with it on. A 20 gram flight suite on a 70 gram bird is a lot of weight. So I guess that answers your first question, I would highly advise against putting a bird in a flight suit for that long. As suggested a carrier cage is a much more convenient way to do it. And bird poops is actually highly soluble. Carry a general duty cleaner in a small spritz bottle and a whole bunch of paper tow. Lastly, have you ever had your bird in a car? I know mine used to get really car sick and puke EVERYWHERE (or someone suggested maybe she would get so excited... either way). So that's another consideration, but I don't think that happens to many birds.

I also recommand a carrier but if you want to keep him out you could keep the flight suit on you"ll just need to change the pad every so often. Petco sells a spray called poop off which comes with a brush on it, but i cant say how good it is

OK let's start with this. Yes I've put the suit on him before and they hate it at first but will get used to it. The suits have a poop pouch so he won't get it on the car. Yes he loves car rides and he just sits on our shoulder under our neck. He hates the carrier cage cause he can't stabilize himself during car rides so we keep him with us and god forbid we have to brake hard we hold him. (We don't drive reckless and we are very careful). I just didn't know if there was a limit or not to how long he can be in a suit. I appreciate the weight difference reference that actually helps. Thanks though

If he poops as much as my bird does, the poop pouch would fill up and then some in nine hours, especially if you use one of the disposable pads (which take up a lot of room in the poop pouch). You would have to take the suit off and empty out the poop pouch, then put it back on, which I imagine would be a hassle while in a vehicle and a potential danger if your bird struggles and potentially flies in the car to get away from the suit (I don't know how your bird reacts to it, but that is what mine does, and its a definite possibility). What kind of carrier do you have? Adding perches, if possible, would help with his stability issues in the carrier, or putting some kind of blanket on the inside bottom so he doesn't slip and slide. The carrier would be the better alternative for such a long ride.

Sorry took so long to get back on this site. I will try that with his carrier cage. It is a small blue tunnel looking cage with a small handle. Towels and I was having trouble looking for stable perches to fit in this. I need to find a bigger carrier I guess.

Personally I would never consider having a bird in anything but a travel cage whilst in the car. I mean apart from the whole bird pooping on your apholstery, it's just not safe. I mean no matter how careful a driver you maybe, there is no accounting for the other drivers on the road. I feel it would be far safer for my birds if heaven forbid we were involved in a car crash, if the were firmly secured in the back seat, as a pose to unrestrained in the front. Car crashes are messy things go flying, glass shatters metal goes flying, and there is no way you can keep hold of your bird throughout that process. But that's just my opinion


As for the flight suit, you would want to be fairly sure you conure was use to wearing it for extened periods of time, otherwise you could stress him out. Oh and they don't all learn to love usingnthe flight suit.
