Hello everyone.

I have really bad news. We accidentally left a window slightly open and Zafir went out. This was on Monday when the sun was going down. We searched for her and did everything but no clue yet. It’s winter and it’s really cold but we did everything we could but I’m not writing because of Zafir but because of Azur now. After Zafir flew away he did nothing. He doesn’t do anything all day long he just sits on a perch and sleeps or preens himself. He eats normally. He is very slow and reacts really slowly. I wanted to try to see how he reacts to a sunflower seed which he loves and he usually runs or flies up to it really quickly but now he was just slowly stepping on my hand for it. What should we do to get him to be more energetic? Is this how he mourns? Because he isn’t searching or screaming for Zafir at all. I am extremely sad and I feel this whole thing is my fault and I’m ashamed but I had to write here for the sake of Azur. I actually don’t know if it’s a he but I always refer to Azur like that. I hope you have some answers about Azur.

Aw I’m sorry! I’ve accidentally left windows a crack too and when I see them while the birds are out I race over and shut them. Have you postEd on your Facebook community page and 911parrot alert?

Maybe play parrot videos for Azur and seem if that changes his mood. To me it sounds like he is sad his friend is gone.

We did go around in the city but my phone’s not very loud. It was -9 Celsius degrees the first night, the second night -4 Celsius degrees. After the 20-22 Celsius degree in the house isn’t that fatal? Should we still go around? Didn’t she freeze?

Yes we posted her picture on three different Facebook pages, but where I live there’s no 911 parrot alert unfortunately. Okay I’ll try the videos. When do you think is it appropriate to get a friend for him? Because we found a really good chance but not sure if he’s ready yet.

Oh and also my family is really tired of searching for her even though we didn’t go on a mile radius so I am alone now in this case. There are lots of trees here, even a forest. How am I supposed to find her in my own by foot? I hope I could though.

So basically what we did was: first for two hours and a half in the dark we went out and called for her and we also brought treats and food with us. We searched with flashlights because we couldn’t see anything. I know that could’ve scared her but at least we could’ve seen her fly at some direction. We didn’t find her. The next day my dad put Azur’s sounds on a speaker and we had that going all day long. We put the cage and treats outside just in case. We put flyers over the town/city and while that we looked for her in trees and rooftops. Then we went home to eat lunch and then went out again and called and searched for her for another 1 and a half hour. We asked people who had chickens if they had seen her but they didn’t either. We wrote an email to a local address, which lots of people look at but no one wrote to us or called us. At this point we were extremely tired, sad and disappointed and it was dark again. We also contacted the veterinarian if anyone brought a found parrot to her but nothing worked. These happened on Monday and Tuesday. It’s Wednesday night now here and it was cold all day long.

I wonder how Cold it got Inside? With the window open? I suspect Azur is probably just confused and sad due to missing his friend, but, IF it got cold Inside due to the open window, then chance that Azur could be a little ill or (hopefully) recovering from a chill.

As far as giving up and as far as getting another bird. For both those questions only you know the answer. We do have a member here who got a new bird too soon for herself, and has struggled. But for yourself, an additional bird is for You. There is No guarantee, ever, whether two birds will or will not like each other. (Also, IF there is another bird that you want -- getting it does Not Haveto mean, that you give up on Zafir. IF IF Zafir is returned to you, then you will just have three birds.)

(However a -Celsius temp means below freezing, right? You are correct that it might be difficult for a bird to survive outside. Nonetheless I think personally I might get obsessed, and keep looking and hunting longer before giving up. But that is me. You and your family will know when you are ready to stop hunting intensively. )

If you and your family feel you want to get another bird, then do so. There is no way for someone else to judge whether it is too soon, only you yourself and your family.

It took 2 hours of playing parakeet sounds for tge escaped budgie Blue Boy to fly over me and land in a tree next to me. Often day 3 the parrot is less freaked abd more willing to move. I'm praying for you both. dig deep and try for your little freind, then you will know you did everything possible

So the parrots are usually downstairs and the window was open upstairs and the parrots were in the room for about maximum 10 minutes before I noticed Zafír’s absence. The window was only open for like 20-30 cm so I don’t think it got too cold, but we’re probably going to take Azur’s to the vet anyways. Yes 0 degree Celsius is the freezing point so that’s really cold.

Thank you so much for the support. Do you really think she could still be alive in this cold? I have no idea which direction to go though. I will try again tomorrow morning at the very least and try to go through the whole city.

So today I went out again in the city and played Azur’s sounds but no reply. It also started raining and on the end of my hair, ice formed. I don’t think she’ll survive the rain under freezing point.
