green cheek conure appearance changes

Hi there!!

I have had my little Caz for almost 3 months now and I remember being told at the pet shop that baby GCC's have yellow bellies until I guess they become mature?

Is there any truth to this? As I am starting to wonder since he just recently lost a substantial amount of feathers and now has the cutest little yellow and red tipped feathers on his chest. I am starting to think did I get a good price for a yellow sided conure or is there more molting to come?

Any advice/answers from those who have either GCC or yellow sided GCC would be greatly appreciated!!

Sure. You will have to forgive the poor quality of the before (in the cage) he isn't good for pictures unless distracted. So you will notice that the red has increased around the chest. I have also read about their faces being different in colour so ill attach one of him recently (he was distracted in that shot apparently snuggling up to the cat is the one time he doesn't want to move)

I don't think normals have any yellow as chicks, but I'm no conure expert. I would say you got a good deal of a yellow sided conure

How old we're your gcc's in that photo copperarabian?

It's interesting that the pet shop may have made that mistake..saved $100 though! Though I'd pay more for my little guy any day!!

It's not my photo so I don't know

chain pet stores often make mistakes, I've seen maroon bellies & black capped conures listed as GGC, and I once saw a blue crowned conure listed as a blue headed pionus. The supplier sends in the animals with labels and only someone who actually knows about that type of animal will notice.

Ya I think it's a yellow-sided. I would know from anywhere. It could be a pineapple though. Keep sending us pics it can't be confirmed its a yellow sided.

I would say that what you witnessed is him coloring up from his baby colors and into his adult colors!
