Sun conure
Hey everybody,I just got my first sun conure ever a week ago.I have been doing a lot of research but I still cant find answers to some things I cant find the answers too.First I will start by telling you what I know about him or her...lol.He or she is about 2 years old...thats all I know...lol.I got him or her from someone who was getting rid of it because they said they didnt have time for it...So basically Im in the dark and don't know anything.Im going to call him a him for now lol till I get him sexed. He does things that I have no idea what they mean.Like when I get close to his cage his wings flutter. He doesnt let me pet him much and when I try to he nips me or tries. Also when Im close to him he bobs his head a lot. Then theres times when he puffs up at me n stares me down and kind of moves his head in circular motions...Maybe someone on here can help me or give me some advice.I would so appreciate it:)

My birds use head bobbing to tell me where they want to go or what they want to do, but also in a threatening way (coming too close during an afternoon nap.) Sounds to me like threatening behaviour. It is important to know what to do when first getting a pre owned bird. There are guides (about how to stop them biteing for example) I found the way I got my birds to love me was firstly through hand feeding (vegetables or fruit), and then by head scratching. I hope you win him over!

I hope I win him over I know it will take some time.I give him treats all the time he happily takes those from me.Lastnight he let me hold him for a long time.I was pretty surprised about that.Thank you for the help:orange:

I recently got a GCC under similar conditions, and s/he is coming around slowly. He hardly ever bites, which is good, but seems just real timid and scared, and sometimes when I move my hand near him he makes chirping noises, and hunkers down...I guess it will just take some time!!

mine too lol!!!

Male Sun Conures have a shorter and blunter beak than the females. The females beak is narrower and pointier. :) The females also have a more shriller voice I believe.
Try to spend time with him/her and sit by the cage too and talk to him/her. It'll help. If they see that you care enough about them and want to interact with them they will eventually do the same with you. It's people that don't spend time with their birds and keep them in the cage all day like an "ornament" thats when the bird figures "why bother?" They don't want to bother with me, why should I bother with them?"

Congrats, we got a jenday and 2 sun conures a few weeks ago ourselves! They are great.

I want to get mines a partner but I dont know how that would work.I dont know if they have to be seperated for a while before I put them in the same cage???I saw a green cheek conure that was pineapple thats what he called it,anyways lol I wanted to get it but I didnt know what to do?Do you know how that would work or what I have to do?

I believe the best course of action is to quarantine any new bird additions for a month prior to introducing them to the flock. In that time you can also have the new bird checked over by an avian vet. Once you introduce them you can keep them in separate cages and allow them to get used to one another rather than stick them both together immediately.

Ours are already bonded, we were told they have been together for 10+ years. They are still opening up quite well, and we play with them individually and as a group daily. It's a blessing to have them, and the interaction between them is priceless.

Thank you for the help,I decided I would wait till my bond with the one I have grows because I think bringing another in would mess everything up lol:)
