I got a mattress yesterday that I ordered from Walmart. It was still wrapped in plastic and I threw my old mattress out and put my new mattress in my room. Then I read about toxic fumes coming from mattresses.
This mattress doesn't smell. I don't have another bed but I worry about my bird who has to be in the same room. Is this okay?

Phew that’s a tough one, as you’re dealing with potential dangers that are hard to detect but could be deadly! Is it at all possible to move your bird out of the room even temporarily? If not, then if it was me, depending on the weather I’d be leaving every door and window open to maximise ventilation.

We bought a new leather couch about a year ago and I had a similar freak-out about fumes off-gassing from that. It smelled quite strongly for quite a few weeks and I worried about how the fumes would affect my littlies but i kept the room well ventilated and happily they’re all ok. Hope your guys are ok too!

Personally, I'd sleep on the floor for a week while the thing aired out elsewhere. It just seems like a big risk for something that is avoidable (albeit, a hassle)...Then even after bringing it in, I'd keep the room open and ventilated (after that week or 2 of letting it air out away from the birds)
