Hey guys, i have the first cold of fall (yay...) and I'm worried about Nibbler. My friend accidentally killed his colony of zebra finches during a flu and i definitely don't want any thing to happen!

Am i safe to interact or should my fiancee di it?

I try to minimize my interaction with my flock when I have cold, I, luckily, haven't had one this season...yet.
I was looking at my past videos I happened to save of Clicky and Cassie my past budgies, I did interact with them while I had a cold, I did many times. So I don't know.

No worries, sometimes it happens:) Nothing we would ban you over for sure:)

I have heard both ways, some things are communicable some are not.

For the most part most of humanity is afraid of getting disease from birds ie. avian bird flu. So there are some things...but not everything.

I'd keep my distance, most illnesses only last a few days, if anyone in the household can take care of the bird in the meantime that would be better. Also shower a lot so the germs don't spread all over while your sick, the germs will end up all over your hands and face.

It's body fluids that are the risk to your birds not the actual cold, use strict and sensible hygiene practises and there shouldnt be a problem.

Best to sneeze into a tissue to avoid airborne droplets and then dispose
Avoid cuddles to be safe
Wash hands with antibacterial soap often, especially before any food prep.

agreed with Kiwibird, more likely the bacteria getting on stuff and infecting that way,

just practice the usual cold measures washing hands, sneezing into a cloth and if you're anything like me turning into a sinus clogged snot blob sat in the corner of the room
