I think everything in moderation.
MANY moons ago, before I even had my own parrot, I visited this little old French lady who taught me all about wildlife rehabilitation. Anyway, she had a B&G Macaw and a Yellow Naped Amazon. The B&G was over 60 at the time, and the Amazon over 50. They had lived on human food their entire life. She never purchased a single bag of parrot food. And they both looked FANTASTIC!!
And I believe you but parrots from years ago were either wild-caught or first generations of wild-caught parents (which makes a HUGE difference in their overall health and resistance to bad stuff!)and human food was not the same as today's food... we used to buy the ingredients fresh daily, cook from scratch and eat only seasonal stuff but nowadays everything is GMO, picked green and ripen artificially, sprayed with 30 different types of chemicals and processed until you could be eating Soylent Green for all you know!
