He is now so comfortable with his harness and loves being outside on little walks. On Friday i decided to see how far he could go, assuming i would let him decide when he had enough and we would go home. My town does a "Friday Night Cruisin'" thing, with classic cars downtown and a lot of people eating and walking around. Gilbert went!! He absolutely loved it. We only did a section of town before we turned to walk home, because there were so many dogs there and i didn't want anything scary happening, especially while walking 3 chihuahuas and a parrot, LOL. I don't have enough hands for all that if something weird happens.
So then yesterday he went for another walk with us and really loved it. He just calmly sat on my shoulder and chattered and took in the sights. We went again today for a walk across town to my dad's house and he was so chilled out, just sitting on my shoulder, and loved the walk around town.
Everyone i encountered was fascinated how calm he is. He is not at all freaked out when people stop to talk to him. A part of me thought 'should i be more protective and not let him go out with me?' but the level of joy he seems to get is just amazing. I can almost see the thoughts in his head, like all the new sights are sparking new ideas for him.
I put a small towel on my shoulder and pin it to my shirt as his 'perch' and he seems to understand that is the boundary.
So, Gilbert basically had a weekend adventure. That harness was one of the best purchases i ever made for him.
