I'm trying to find information on GI Infection since Robin passed less than two weeks ago and can't figure out what causes this. He was fine but I knew from his 'potty' something was wrong. He got a quick scan and given anti-diarrhea medicine and sent home. The next day I took him back he was way worse! Anyway, does anyone have any info?

Did they do a fecal examination and culture at all? If it was a bacterial infection of his GI, that would be the best indicator and help for determining what the cause was. Other than that, without a necropsy being done, it's near impossible to know what caused Robin's passing unfortunately :(

Did the veterinarian not give you any definitive information? Since this all transpired in a relatively short period of time, I think I might write down everything that led up to & during each vet visit, what you were told and things that went on at home, then I would approach the veterinarian and at least demand a refund of all charges...and...if the vet refused, I would pursue it legally.....

Although I don't know if veterinarians carry error & omissions insurance, but I would contend that my bird was not properly examined & diagnosed, though, like Dinosrawr is right a necropsy would have been the best idea, you still have leverage in getting some recompense.....

Good luck.....

Without definitive tests (fecal, x-ray, or blood) there are so many things it could have been. I'm so sorry that Robin wasn't given a good diagnosis and was sent home without a real cure or answer. :(

It doesn't seem like this was an avian vet. Whether they're certified avian or not, I'd find a new vet (for Brax) who's clientele is at least about 50% birds (and has good reviews). Unfortunately, there are a lot of vets out there who will see birds who really shouldn't be!
