Getting used to new play stand

Hang food treats in different areas of the playstand to encourage Tangie to climb around and explore. My Dexter was a little hesitant to check out the cage-top playstand when we upgraded his cage (it was higher than the last one) he wouldn't step off of my hand at all. Once I hung a jalapeno and mango kebob up near the top, he decided it was worth climbing up for. Now it's his favorite place to be, even without treats ;).

I put Foo on her little carry around perch and let her watch me put together a new playgym, attach toys, add food and water ect. By the time I'm done having all that fun she wants in on it bad.

I involve my Amazon in the process of assembling anything that requires assembly. From the opening of the box (this come easier if you allow your parrot to play with cardboard boxes), removal of the parts, to the assembly. Yes, this really slows things down and you must keep a close eye on small items like screws, but the fear issues just go away.

Never under estimate the positive advantage of touring your home every few days reintroducing your parrot to the home and where out of sight people are (find a family member game). The process takes the edge off of new things by placing them away from the parrot and with time moving them closer, especially if they are very fearful of 'new' things.
