Hey all
I've been upset today about all the macaws on preloved and how they need a good home but right now is really not the time I'd be able to do something like that. I am however getting in touch with people and trying to get most rehomed via them, (for which I'll try and give you updates about!)
However when I went to my local breeders pet store today, where I got Merlin&my budgie's from, I was going there with the intention of picking up some boxes that I could use to transport my budgies from my current home to where I'll be moving to in a weeks time!
The breeder did come in whilst I was there and I took the opportunity to ask him when he would have some macaws ready. - Just my luck, his breeding b&g pair are on eggs at the moment! So we're looking at around late december/janaury when I'd be able to take one home with me. When he breeds birds I can't deny, they are always fantastic little chaps, I was playing with some blue fronted amazons in the store earlier, only 16 weeks I think he said. (Not quite ready to leave him yet but they're on solids too). He said he'd help me out with a cage setup properly for a macaw etc.
I told him about how I'd rehomed the cockatoo and he was all "wow, she's really something isn't she?" and I asked how much the macaw would be and looks like I'll be getting one fairly cheap! Hurrah!
So, I'm off to do as much in depth research as I can about them so there isn't a shred of knowledge I don't have about them, along with plenty more youtube videos. (My fav part of bird research )
&Now just to save every scrap of money I can possibly find.
If anyone has any cage suggestions or anything they'd like to recommend for keeping a macaw, it'd be more than welcome! I'm hoping for max £200 on a cage, but I guess that depends on what I can find
I hope Merlin likes his new brother/sister. He is my first priority and if Merlin starts showing signs of real distress about this new bird then I would have to return/rehome, but that would be a last resort!
