Green Cheek Conure
Hi, all! Iā€™m new to conures, I have had cockatiels in the past, but Iā€™m uncertain of the size of cage I should get for my conure. Heā€™s almost a year old but I have only had him for a couple weeks. I got a ā€œbudgie and small birdā€ cage, but it was pretty small for him. So I upgraded to a larger and taller cage. Since heā€™s been in this one, though, Iā€™ve noticed his tail feathers are splitting and look really awkward. What dimensions would you recommend for him? Iā€™m limited on space but can make adjustments so he can have a cage that feels open enough for him. Cheers!

How much time does he spend out of his cage? If he's out most of the time his cage doesn't need to be as large. A good sized cage for him would be 32x18x 32-36. He would still need time out of his cage to stretch, flap and fly but would be comfortable while inside. It's difficult to even find cages larger than this unless it's made for a large parrot with wide bar spacing.

Id recommend a cage with a flat top so you can put a playstand there, don't get the ones that open on top with a perch to keep it open, they can be a deathtrap if the bird decides to chew on the wood.

Something like this, I also prefer landing pad door to swing door.

So better:

I actually own this one I think or its just as close. Then add more perches and toys to play with and climb around on and millet clamps inside and out.

Here's my setup before I added two more cages to make a cage island.

NO they are smart bed time they know where to go.

I like the third one down with the stand and flat top. As long as it's the 32x18 version not the 24x16 version which is too small. I have four or five of years smaller one that I dont use anymore. I drilled new holes in the metal and reconfigured the panels to make larger cages 24x32x32.

I prefer the landing strip type but what dannabudgie is saying is I'm a great expert in cages....I'll take it.

mine is all vertical. also you get these moments in those type cages.

Not for nothing You have to love my GCC just going...I'm not involved.

I've watched this before! It's so funny that the GCC just continuing eating his millet! Are you sure that budgie wasn't trying to mate with an unwilling partner?

No it was attempted mating she she was just to young. But lets not not hijack the thread,

Your cage set up looks like fun! Don't your birds get confused about which cage is theirs? Is the set up on top of a large table?
Yes it's all on a large table.
