Gaming with birds

Surely there's got to be other gamers on this board? For V-Day I bought myself a PS4. I'm a terrible gamer, but love to play. My current obsession is Destiny.

However, along with being a terrible gamer I have the problem of "assistance" from the birds. Sydney is obsessed with eating the controller and chases my hands. Sammie, the weirdo, insists on licking my ear, which freaks me out. Then there's Zoe...she thinks she's supposed to be the center of attention, so she flies to my head or shoulder and says "Hi!, Hi!, Hi!" and if I don't give her the appropriate attention I get a pinch or my glasses flung to the floor, which is a problem since I can't see without them.

Well, given all that is going on while you're trying to game, maybe you're not such a terrible gamer after all....

That would be my daughter. Not me.

My macaws ARE my "games."

I actually am terrible, but I let them stay out with me while I game so I can use them as an excuse :)

Lol, Karen --we're gamers here- I hope you have back-up controllers, because you'll need them [emoji87]

I bought hubby a special controller one year -a PS3 controller that was the style of an Xbox controller (more comfortable to play with), and chili mangled one of the joysticks...and some buttons...and then she murdered it by pushing it off the table and it landed on the baseboard heater- thankfully I found it in time, but it was too late for the controller *sigh*

All of our remotes have missing or chewed buttons because they're just irresistible

The only solutions we've figured out are either play in a different room, or keep her in her cage while playing.

I have a 360, but I admit I actually prefer the PS4 controller. I don't know why. I have 2 controllers, but that's more for when the battery runs down on one, I swap for the other and put the first one on the charger.

I had been waiting until after their bed time to play, but I took a few days off to literally drink wine and play games (I had 3 bottles in 4 days) We only have one TV in our house and that's in the living room where the birds are. I feel so guilty locking them up while I play. Zoe sits on her sleeping perch and mournfully says...."cracker" in a sad depressed voice and when that doesn't work she yells at the top of her lungs.

PS...at $50 a pop for controllers I can't afford too many and no, I did not teach Zoe to say "cracker" she came with that word. I'd never teach my bird that.

Yeah- the controllers are ridiculously expensive!! Luckily I found the special one (that was murdered by miss fluff n stuff) at a game shop used for $25 ~so that's something you can look into in case you ever need to replace one.

Can you distract her with toys while you play? Or is it I don't want anything but you? lol

I don't know if I it's Zoe or if it's BTMs but when she's out she can't stand not being on me. The sennies can be distracted, but not Zoe. She thinks any and all things revolve around her. Maybe I've created a monster?

PS Sammie at my first tv remote. I bought a new one and gave her the old one. She wanted nothing to do with it. Instead she got a hold of the new one.

Hmmm....chili has that "issue" too- she has to be in the middle of anything that remotely looks entertaining lol reading a book? Let me chew the pages.... Trying to crochet? Let me steal your hook and unravel everything.... Trying to play games? Let me eat the controller... [emoji41]

LMAO! Sammie knows you were trying to pull one over on her [emoji23]

I discovered the only time Zoe will be vaguely good is if I'm standing up in front of the t.v. Rocking from foot to foot. That gets tiring after awhile [emoji5] oh and when it's close to her bedtime. Then she's sleepy enough that she's happy enough to perch on my knee or shoulder.

I'm an iPad gamer...uh, does that count? Lol.

Don has (I think it's PS3) and is so serious when he's playing... can't be bothered by the birds ;). He plays with others online too. When kids find out there are players on who are "a little older", he says they'll call you a child molester or pervert LOL! I thought that was so funny! :18:

There are lots of us geezers out there. A couple years ago I belonged to a guild of "over 40" gamers. My company that has thousands of employees all over the U.S. Has a gaming group that I belong to.

I'm a huge gamer myself. I mostly play PS4 games, but I do play PS3 games sometimes as well.

It is almost impossible to play games when you have birds crawling all over you. :D

Once I had three birds on me at once while gaming, one on each shoulder and one trying to eat the controller in my hands (evil Mildred). It was...difficult.

I'm an IPad gamer and Venus is now trying to take over it, she has no fear. My poor work PC has been a victim already by Venus, so I try to keep her away from all electronics. She likes to run across the keys and then surprise! I think I'll take this key, lol.

I'm a huge PC gamer, and when I have the birds out I play specific games so that I can still enjoy myself while entertaining the birds, hahaha! I have a mouse with 6 thumb-side buttons, so I can play simple games like Diablo 3 or something mundane like Sims 4 while the birds are out (especially Shiko). That way I just hold my left hand out while Shiko quite literally talks for an hour or more into my hand, cuddling it, or bumping it with his beak.

With Avery, however, I can manage playing any game that requires WSAD movement so long as I'm content to do miserably, hahaha! She will grab onto my fingers and just hold them, or she'll charge them and try to attack them as if she's trying to protect the keys or something, the goof.

The only problem I have with gaming is that my laptop is an expensive gaming laptop because I'm too mobile to use a desktop, so they reaaaallly love being all over it. I actually have picture of them red handed, too!

Avery holding my fingers:

Getting ready to charge my evil left hand:

Enjoying using mom's expensive piece of technology as a perch:

The whole crew demanding my attention, LOL!:

I don't get to play as much, anymore, but that's due more to my children than anything else. But on the occasions that I do get to play, both Jolly and Maya do their level best to run interference! Biting controllers, pulling at fingers, the works! Hahaha! They're relentless!

I haven't gotten a PS4, yet, but they haven't missed a step on my PS3 and 360!

I used to have a gaming laptop, but then my son's died and I gave him mine. I couldn't afford another one so got the PS4 instead.

Is the PS4 worth upgrading from the PS3 ? I play AC and if I am not mistaken have played against others running PS4 :) Died a lot when I started but its fun

I can't answer that because I went from a 360 to PS4, but if I had to answer I'd say only if you really want the games that come out for it that aren't on the ps3.
