So my husband found fresh yucca root out shopping today and he picked some up for us to try and some for the birds, I know the wood is safe, but just double checking if the fresh is safe for the birds to eat?

The root's safe & the tree's safe.....

I cook it when I eat it... But I would cook it less for the birds.;)

Now I'm craving Yucca...:)

I have never tried it but I will be waiting for a review please?:D

I eat "yuca" regularly. Better than potatoes. The cultivated variety is safe to eat, and safe for your parrot. But the "wild" yuca eaten by South American Indians is high in hydrocyanic acid, or hydrogen cyanide, and could kill a parrot, or you for that matter. The Indians have to process it, and ferment it, before it becomes edible. The cultivated variety that you find in the US has had the HCN bred out of it.
