I have a 14 year old son who's making some extremely poor choices and it's wearing on me...daily. I don't know whether to cry or be angry, I'm embarrassed and ashamed and my heart aches mores than I thought possible.

Last week (when these pictures were taken) I had just experienced 3 days in 3 different courts, missed 3 days of work and I was running ragged.

I had some errands to do uptown, and I desperately needed some bird time...so I decided to take Franklin with me.

He must have known my emotions were on the fritz...because the entire car ride (only 6 miles) he snuggled his beak up to my cheek...I pulled over to take the pic...

Then we stopped to see our dear friend Naoma at her store. She always loves seeing Franklin.

I stopped by to check out my daughters trailer and Franlin had a snack...I always know when he's comfortable because he eats. When he doesn't like something...he won't eat.

Then he decided to explore and found this already frayed curtain tie...soo cute because it looks like he's asking me..."Hey Mom, is this considered destruction of property?"

We hung out a couple hours and went home.

It was a nice lull to the unsurmountable stress I've been dealing with lately.

Lastly I thought I'd share Frankies "travel/outdoor" cage.

For Franklin, this was the best choice. It's a parakeet cage. Small enough to fit comfortably in the car, large enough he can get around.

He absolutely LOVES this cage set up...he get's to be in it when I put him outside for the day on nice days, longer car rides (I just take out the water) When we are out of town he get's to go to my neighbors, daughters or bestest friends Cherys and stay.

He's so used to his travel cage that he suffers no ill effects or stress of the environment change. Plus he's been to each persons house enough times with me, he's totally comfortable.

Yes, it's packed with toys...he's a very busy boy. :D:rainbow1:

Franklin is 14 months old and as a matter of fact...we bought him 5/28/2011. I'll never forget that day...I need to go back and find some pictures of him the day we bought him :)

Have a good day everyone.

I am so sorry you have to deal with all that, that is really rough. however he is a beautiful bird and I love the travel cage.good idea. Hang in there they do eventually grow up 14 is a very tough age for a lot of kids. Alison and sweetie pie:D

Franklin is such a handsome bird, stylin' in his flight suit! Sounds like you had a much needed outing. 14 is a very tough age for some kids. I've been through it 3 times. Some glide, some falter and if they, and we, live through it...it'll all be worth it..hang in there, mom!

Great pictures! Its amazing how a few hours with these guys can really lift your spirits!

awww such cute pictures! I am very sorry for everything your going through, I know how you feel my stepson (who is now 19) has put us through the same thing at probably about the same age as your son it does get better though (((hugs))).

Thanks everyone for your "support" with my son. I'm sure we'll get through this too and I hope it's only a phase...but I dunno...he's really got himself in a heap of trouble.

I just keep telling him...it's never to late to turn your life around...but it has to start with YOU.

It's mostly sad because we live in a very small town, I work at the school district as a school bus driver/supervisor. EVERYONE knows my son and what he's done and the path he's currently chosen...this last year has been a difficult one of counseling, court, more court, detention, more counseling, inpatient and more detention.

I can't help but say...If only...

My heart breaks, but even still...I continue to tell myself...don't loose hope..it's not too late.

Thanks again everyone...and yes that little smidgen of badly needed birdie time absolutely lifts my spirits! We also have horses who stand so steady while I drench them in tears and our dear loyal dogs who curl up with me and just let me be...

I really don't have it bad...in fact...Life would be perfect if my son would just straighten up!

Have a great night everyone.

Some well chosen words there. It's always important to notice the good things in life when all you can see are the bad.

Frankie looks like he's loving the adventure and appreciating the time spent with you.
Happy and well raised GCCs can be very relaxed outdoors and it can really be infectious to the owner!

Keep up the good work!
