My mother was at my grandma's house today and this bird was in a tree in front yard. It was real friendly and came down on her shoulder. It's inside the house right now but we will try to find owner. I'm heading to my grandmother's right now to ring doorbells around neighborhood to see whose bird it is. It can get cold at night here in Colorado Springs so glad it came down from tree. I attached a picture of it if anybody can identify species or anything noteworthy?

****Edit, we found the birds owner and I posted an update on the next page. Thanks all!

gallah cockatoo, I live in colorado myself. A distance from the springs though but I'll keep an eye out for anyone missing a gallah. Also checkout the app "nextdoor" and post pictures saying you found it, someone might look on there and recognize where it's from.

Thanks for info, rang a bunch of doorbells in neighborhood and no luck. I'll check out next door app.

Looked through a variety of lost & found sites/facebooks to see if I could find anyone missing their gallah but no such luck :/ keep us posted.

I will, I posted it on next door. I didn't post a picture because I'm worried someone will just say it is theirs since it looks like these birds are quite expensive. Is is true these birds sell for a couple grand?

that's what I'm seeing. good on you for being cautious. though I do suggested at least mentioning the species and ask for proof of ownership if someone comes forward.

Someone has to be missing that baby. Check Craigslist and maybe any local parrot Facebook pages. I know if my girls (also Rose Breasted cockatoos) ever went missing I'd be a devastated mess!

be aware they can easily fly miles, the odds that it's a neighbours pet are low, you'd have heard them long before now and you would have heard the owners shouting for them. Try asking at your local vet if they have any parrot owners, then ask them if they can ask any other vets in the area. It may be microchipped, not sure if it has a ring band (it should) they can get information based on either of those which can help locate the owner. Make sure to feed lots of fruits and veg, there are poisonous ones so check through this list http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-...afe-fresh-foods-toxic-food-lists-sprouts.html

Also make sure not to use any non-stick cookware, scented candles or air fresheners around them. the fumes released from those are fatal to birds

He is adorable and yes he is a Galah Cockatoo, also known as a Rose Breasted Cockatoo and a Roseate Cockatoo. Search for all these names in the lost sections.

Please feed mainly veggies, sprouted seeds and some pellets if possible. This little one looks in good shape and could have flown easily 10-20 miles.

Anything you need to know let us know.

PS if you can get it talking it may say some things and then search Youtube?

Please watch out for flippers that will say anything to put that darling through h*ll!
Make anyone really prove it is their baby! Ask for band identification, especially if there is no band! Ask for their vet name and call him! Ask for photos of the cage, anything!
Last resort, you have an incredibly wonderful companion that WILL turn your life around! They are such trusting, sensitive souls! You can see it in the eyes!

Lucky you found the bird!! Great you took him in. Im sure he may not have lasted long in the wild.

Thanks all for your info. The neighbor that lives across from my grandmother's house is currently taking care of the bird. She owns a parrot so at least knows how to take care of exotic birds. My mother told me there is a leg band on the bird but they couldn't read the numbers last evening since the bird was not cooperating. We will try to get those numbers today and see if any info comes back. Also, on the nextdoor app I posted I found a lost cockatoo without posting the picture or description and some one replied back with this.

"Hey Jason, call 757-269-xxxx. Rose (the bird) lives with a lady with no phone. That number belongs to her son. You rock!!"

I put x's on the last 4 digits of the phone number, I'm gonna call it later but first want to see if leg band comes back with anything.

So we have a happy ending to all of this, last night I posted in the app called nextdoor that we found a lost cockatoo. A woman named Kristi replied back that she might know whose bird it is, Kristi is a manager of a trailer park that sits a few miles to the South of my grandmother's house. Kristi said the woman that owns this bird is named Carol, Carol is elderly and does not have a working phone apparently, everybody in this trailer park knows this bird apparently and has been looking for it and posting flyers up. The bird is named Rose and has been missing since Monday. Carol's son is named Shawn and he always walks around with the bird on his shoulder with no issues until Monday.

On Monday the bird took off from his shoulder and they could not get it back. So Carol has been devastated and Shawn has felt really guilty since it was his fault the bird got away. My mother spoke to Shawn since Kristi gave me his number and he sent us a picture of the bird with his mother Carol and also the band number he gave my mother matches the one on the bird so we know Carol is the legit owner.

The woman that lives across the street from my Grandmother is named Tammy and she has been taking care of the bird since yesterday since she owns another exotic bird. Tammy will be taking the bird down to Carol later today to reunite the bird with its owner. So thanks to the nextdoor app we have a happy ending.

Shawn sent us a picture of his mother Carol with the bird, I'll attach it to this post. Thanks all for your help!
