Since visiting the green wing me and jack have been in heavy discussion about if we can get another bird.

Both of us would love a macaw, an agreed to find one who needed a home rather then a baby.

Just got back from a four hour journey to visit Holli, a female blue and gold. She is approx one year old, however the owners can't handle such a big bird with their dogs. They were however lovely people and we completely sympathised as she got the attention and care required.

She has lost a toe nail, but it doesn't affect her at all. She stepped up onto me almost immediately and that was it. Bond created. We fell in love with her. She has moulted out her feathers, her belly is a little scruffy but pin feathers of gold are there to show. Hopefully the toe nail will grow back, avian vet check will be first thing to get a good bill of health though and 30 day quarantine from Loki and Cricket for safe measures.

Left a deposit, got home to prepare, spent a good £100.00 on bits and pieces for her cage and around the house. Got a huge cage il post pics, was a fortune lol.

Can't wait to bring her to complete our little family :) I'm so happy!

Post pics ASAP :)

Wow! I didn't even know you were looking! Congratulations! We need to see all the pictures. Holli is one lucky girl.

Wonderful!!! Looks like your on your way . I bet Holli will be a wonderful bird. She will help build your confidence with Macaws . Which in turn will help you understand them. I know you will be a good parront!! [Ive been reading your last thread and hard decision].You have to give yourself credit though]. Eclectus are not an easy bird [and you have that experience] This Macaw might even be easier. Congrats to you !!:)

Oh my gosh, how super exciting!!!
Many many congrats!!!! You must be over the moon! :D Can't wait to see pics of Holli and the cage you got for her!

Welcome to the Big Mac Club. :D

Congratulations! Which toe is missing the nail? On Rosie's bad foot her shorter front toe has a the dinkiest most pathetic nail that never grows more than a small nub. It doesn't make life hard for her at all :)

Congrats that is wonderful news your first Macaw, how exciting
I am so happy for you !!!!
Awwwww love at first sight Holli sounds like an angel
After the 30 day quarantine Loki and Cricket are going to get the surprise of a lifetime.
When is the big day?

Congratulations! I adopted Savannah just over a month ago. She is a 19 year old Greenwing and my first Macaw. Things are going great! It sounds like you found your match, too! I'm sure things will go well with you and Holli as well! Good luck and can't wait to see pics!

Eeeeee thank you everyone, we have spent all day making our apartment completely bird friendly. Slowly, we have been able to build up lots of toys, play stands and our new gym, we have another gym coming too.

I have kitted out her cage, got some foraging, shredders and some lovely perches. Taking out all the crappy dowel for natural, rope and shell hard stone perches from the pet store.

New room for her is fully sorted with no distractions and has had around a week to air out properly. We don't use air fresheners or anything anyway.

Quick question, although il need some nice pellets, can Holli eat what Loki gets? But maybe pellets as a solid diet with it. 70% Fresh fruit and veg, 25% Pellet and 5% Seed?

I can't wait to show you guys pictures, I'm so excited. Now we are ready we are going tomorrow morning, so not long now :)!

Il post some pictures as soon as we are settled tomorrow,

Thanks again guys :D

x

I have a feeling you won't be sleeping much tonight in anticipation of Holli's arrival. ;)

WOW, you worked your butt off to get everything just right! AWESOME!!! :D

Don't forget the nuts. Shelled or unshelled (I prefer them IN the shell as it promotes foraging). My Macs get about 50% dry mix (I use several Goldenfeast mixes and mix pellets underneath them all) and 50% fruits, veggies, home cooked/baked goodies. :)

Just a super quick picture of her just settling. An her set up.

She is wonderful and I adore her already. She keeps saying hello to me and has just gone straight to a mix of seed and veg, 70/20 veg seed. She has never eaten veg and shes loving my mix I make Loki.

Im so happy, she is lovely and so loving, we had a quick cuddle and she sat on me straight away. I cant wait to let her settle and get down to playing with our flock :)

Day one:
Yesterday was Holli's chance to get to know the new place without much bother from anyone. Just allowing her to calm after such a stressful trip home and long day.

So today I took her some breakfast and the first thing I got was a lovely "hello", which Loki in the other room heard an copied :') so I woke to a lovely welcome from my fids.

Holli had the same as Loki but I added tangerine because she loves them, fresh fruits for a nice morning. I sat in her room with her reading my law work aloud and she replied with small grumbles and hellos every so often.

I got some warning bites when I tried to get her to step up, this is expected as we are all so new to her.
Half an hour later and this picture was taken after she stepped up and had some almonds with me :') bribery <3

Now she is back on top of her cage preening while I sit and read. It is blissful.

I must say Jack (who is not a bird person) must get all my thanks today because he also shares our apartment with birds, an animal he isnt overally used too, an that in itself deserves my gratitude and appreciation, he tries so hard with them an hes brilliant. (Had to throw that in there)

Hope your all well

Josh, Jack, Holli, Loki and Cricket :)

GREAT picture and update, Joshua!! :) LOL @ bribery! Hey, if it does the trick, why not! ;)

Don't be surprised if Jack turns into a bird person, too. It can be contagious, you know. :D

I think you've accomplished quite a bit already with Holli - literally overnight.
