Foul smell

I need some advice.

I walked into my parrots room this morning and there was a terrible smell. At first I thought that a rodent had died in the room or my dog had an accident. I looked all over but could find nothing.

My B&G always hold his poops until the am and a particular perch outside his cage (handy). When I took him to his spot he seemed to struggle at first then had a massive exploding poop that was mainly clear but very foul smelling.

I looked back in his cage and there was no poop in there.

Could that smell have all been him? Should I be taking him to the vet today? His weight is stable and I am gave him just Harrison’s this am and he is eating well.

Any advice appreciated.

Yes, foul smell, struggling to poop, either one alone should mean a trip to a qualified avian vet.

We second the advice from SilverSage.
If the smell is truly coming from his poop, act fast.
Don't wait, get your baby to a Certified Avian Vet now !

If you do not have an avian vet already please let us know where you are in this world and other members may be able to help locate one close to you.

By the time they show signs of illness something may be seriously wrong.

Thanks

Yes, stay calm, don't panic, but act quickly. Please get to the vet ASAP.

None of us know quite what you're talking about, you might have a very sensitive nose and it might be nothing to worry about. However, it does sounds like something that should be deal with now rather than later. The smell in his room this morning might not have been his poop, a rotten odour from the mouth can indicate serious organ failure in birds, I have not known this in parrots though.

Please let us know how you get on. All the best.
