Are your parrots as terrified of it as Cody is??? It was the same thing last year as well. He's very scared of the Christmas tree and doesn't want to go anywhere near it! He'll even bite me if we get to close to it. Last year I desensitized him somewhat, but now he's back to being afraid. Are your birds as afraid of your tree as he is? My mom thinks it's ironic, a bird being afraid of trees. :p It's hard to imagine a Christmas tree actually being scary!

S'mores attacks it as if it was an intruder in her territory (it's quite funny), and Bartleby really doesn't care about it. The tree doesn't bother her.

Poor little Cody :(

Bhahahahaha:D What a silly little guy! its probably the decorations and lights and tinsel that make it look like some hideous beast intruding into his home lol. If only we could see through their eyes for a day eh;)

Imagine walking tomorrow into your office or classroom and suddenly there is a large bathtub sitting in the middle of the place. Certainly you know what a bathtub is but what on earth is it doing here? And how did it get here.It just materialized! That is weird and creepy. It doesn't belong and you certainly didn't ask for it. Strange! Stay away ....stay far away!

lol, that is so funny! And ridiculously cute at the same time! :) I would love to see that! :p

I agree! If only we could see through their eyes! Heck, Cody thinks some really bizarre things are scary. Rulers and tape measures (maybe he's afraid of the metric system? :p), flashlights, anything really colorful (I think it's because of his rainbow flight suit that he hates, now he's afraid of anything rainbow!), heck, he even thinks little stuffed animals are scary! New blankets/quilts as well. He's such a weirdo! :p

I love this! :D It does kind of open up your eyes to what they must be thinking! Makes a little more sense now, that would certainly freak me out!

My parakeets are the same way. One attacks it the other one loves it.

Not to mention if the magic bathtub was decorated with lights and tinsel!

Our birdies couldn't care less about the tree. Granted ours is just a little Norfolk pine tree, but I put some things on the piano and coffee table. They really don't care about those either.

Now our giant labrador...he's broken about 4 ornaments already due to his big destructive tail.

Look at it this way.

A Christmas tree is a veritable deathtrap for a curious parrot. All of the electrocution hazards, the strangling hazard of the tinsel, etc.

You should be glad he doesn't want to have anything to do with it. ;)

Does anyone put their tree up without ornaments just for the bird to enjoy?? I know the wild ones do when you put outside after it has been used.

Yeah...I agree. It would be a very rare AG who would willingly get within a hundred yards of a lit up, blinking Christmas tree.

I had a TAG for a little over two weeks. He was actually braver than Fred with new things,...although there was no Christmas tree at the time.

That's true! Although, we don't use tinsel. But we DO have lights on it that could be hazardous. I def. don't want him messing with it, I just wish he wasn't so afraid of it! Sometimes he spooks and I really think he's gonna hurt himself flying around the room like a maniac.

Mmm, I wouldn't do that just because of the pesticides that are used on Christmas trees. I'm sure if you had an organically grown (do they do that?? lol) one though it'd be a cool idea!

@ Sharon: Freddie is just too cute! :D
