(Lulu)
Hello everyone.
I'm wondering what everyone feeds each day? I want to have a well-balanced diet for Lulu and have been reading so many web sites about food. She loves strawberries. I have fed a little bit of kale, apples, and carrots but want a good diet for her.
Thanks!

The pet store recommended Kaytee Exact rainbow food for her.

I am sure the experienced Parronts will chime in here. I know however that you should make sure never to feed chocolate, avacados, onions, dairy, to much seed (especially sunflower due to to much fat and not enough good stuff in them), and salt.

I am planning on Harrison's pellets, fresh fruits, veggies and legumes in addition to one of the birdie mixes. I have found several on mysafebirdstore.com and am planning to buy the bountiful harvest one for my girl. Everyone says their parrots have loved it. Healthy Bird Diet - over 75 Ingredients hope this helps!

My sun gets Zupreem natural pellets, veggie pasta, and any veggie he chooses to eat. He is very picky. ;) Usually sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, sometimes peas. Avoid foods with sugar, caffine, and chocolate these are toxic to birds. mysafebirdstore.com is a great link for food choices.

Hannah, do you cook any of the vegetables? Or do you give them raw?

Here is what Penny gets each day:

Harrison's pellets

Green beans, carrots, peas, corn (frozen veggie mix), as well as some fresh spinach and sometimes broccoli

1 or 2 Nutriberries per day

I also recently bought the bountiful harvest blend, so I'll usually add a few pinches of that in with her pellets. She gets sunflower seeds VERY occasionally as a treat. I'll usually give her 3-5 sunflower seeds once every week or two. I hope that helps!

Rowdy eats Zupreem Fruitblend, and 1-2 Nutriberries a day.

My other two eat Harrison's High Potency Course. Merlin also gets a couple of Nutriberries and some nuts. Pete gets some nuts; haven't gotten him to try a Nutriberry yet.

They all get a little bit of fruit at lunch. Apples, bananas, mangoes, kiwi usually. Sometimes they get berries when they are in season, especially when I can get them from my own yard. Grapes tend to be a big hit with birds but aren't the most nutritious fruit in the world. They can have some citrus as well, but it is recommended not to go overboard with it.

In the evening they always get a mix of carrots, peas, green beans, corn, lima beans, and broccoli. Sometimes they get some squash, cauliflower or zucchini. Sometimes they get some greens. If I make pasta with tomato sauce, that is always a bit hit. If I make brown rice, they get that as well. Sometimes I give them a bit of whole grain cereal or bread. Sometimes chicken or turkey if I'm eating it.

If I make my own mashed potatoes and use either water or lactose free milk, they get some as well. But, I admit, there is a name brand already made that I really, really like and I tend to buy those instead, which have whole milk, so they don't get those ones. I had some last night though and Pete was begging for them.

Don't feed ground meat. No matter how well it is cooked, it contains trace amounts of E. Coli that are enough to make a bird ill or kill it.

Once in awhile I make them eggs and add peppers and other veggies. You can also crush the shells up and add those, too, for extra calcium. If you will be eating them as well though, I'd skip the shells:)

LOL! I'd prob try it!!!

We feed Totally Organics Pellets as a staple (No Artificial Anything No Artificial Preservatives like BHA, BHT or ethoxyquin. No artificial colors or flavors. No artificial vitamins. No sucrose/sugar added.)

TOP Ingredient Highlights

In addition, we give her bananas, cuties, and apples. She refuses to eat any veggies (cooked or raw), so we are still working on that.

Thanks everyone! I'm on my way to the store now to get a few more veggies and fruits. One question, do you cook the squash and noodles or give it to them raw?

My birds prefer cooked veggies. And, well, I don't want to eat raw pasta, lol! I cook it for myself and give them some.

And yeah, don't eat the egg shells:D

My guys really never get the same thing from 1 day to the next. I mix it up. They always have Zupreem pellets in their cage but all the fresh, cooked stuff is different. I make a lot of birdie breads (muffins) you can hide any veggie in them and all my guys love them. I use the Heathy Bird Cookbook all the time! Check it out if u can.

Birdie bread is a great way to hide veggies. You can even mix in jars of baby food to hide that they are getting veggies. My BCC would never eat orange veggies so I would make her bread and mix in baby food carrots or sweet potatoes.

Wow! Such good ideas. I just heated some frozen veggies and of course she doesn't like them. I once raised a squirrel that loved blueberry muffins. I'll bet Lulu will love them too. Where do I find the cookbook?
Thanks!!!!!!!!

It depends on what I am eating. If I have a salad, he gets to pick from the raw. But we generally cook everything our birds eat, they seem to like it better that way. Foxy loves the green giant frozen corn niblets. (The kind without sauce.)
