Parrots
1 Goffin Cockatoo 1 lesser Sulfur
Ok, the Goffin has been hard to get what it is she is used to eating and it seems the things that used to be a favorite like peanuts are just toys now. What I have tried is elcheapo seed we sell at my store its kaytee I think parrot food because that resembled what she was on, I only got about a cup of it when I got her. I have tried Carnival small hook bill but to me its not much different in ingredients than elcheapo and not liked any better. We have also tried Zupreem thats just a bunch of over the shoulder toys. Tried Avicakes as a treat it is not really a favorite. However give the bird human food and its on. Heres the other thing, the Sulfur doesn't seem to care for the Carnival either and neither like dried fruit or the zupreem. Though my chickens are loving this its getting kinda worrisome not to mention expensive. They still appear in good condition I would just like to see a bit more excitement and interest in the food bowl. So is there something you have tried that has made your birds go wild? I have seen Volkman and it sounds like they may like it anyone ever tried it? I even bought some human grade dried organic fruit with nuts from trader joes thinking it may be its not clean enough for them but nope, not having it, well the nuts they went nuts over but the fruit was an insult. Btw I love these birds, they have such loving personalities, amazing how much more comfortable and social I can be with them opposed to my last two birds, I enjoyed my boys but these guys are the bomb.

Volkmans hook bill seed is very good because it does not have sunflower seeds. Please offer fresh foods - greens, the orange foods like sweet potato and carrots. Also fruits like apples (no seed), grapes, papaya, melons and so on. Grains, nuts but no peanuts.

There's no reason that you NEED to find a pellet food especially if your bird likes fresh food, human grade dried foods are good too. Some seeds are ok, but not a staple part of the diet.

they really neither seem to care for much fresh stuff so far. We have done apples with minor interest, grapefruit, kiwi, grapes, mango, papaya, carrots, potatoes and some peppers without much interest, more from the sulfer than the goffin, the goffin acts like its just toys, never does much than take it out of your hand/bowl and throw it over her shoulder

When you eat your dinner have the plate with the foods you describe. Have the bird nearby on the table with you watching. Birds see their human flock eating and they want to eat too!! We need to teach them to eat the best foods and play with the toys.

Honestly I dont care for them being at the table, I have seen some pretty bad bits from birds trying to take food away from their humans and I do have a couple small kids. I do however share what Im eating when I eat my veggies and fruits those mentioned above are what I eat during the day. The grapefruit didnt go over as well as I had hoped this morning, that used to be my b&gs favorite and my grey liked everything including long pork :( .
Almonds so far are the common ground favorite.

Seeds part is debatable....Same with all pellet diet.... Fresh food is great! But Cockatoos are finicky eaters, mine would throw it at you and not even think twice....I have mine on a Pelleted diet with certain veggies and fruits. She's not a fan with most fruits and veggies, only certain ones. She gets nuts as treats, with her previous owner only have her on seeds, she would only eat sun flower seeds so that's the first bad habit I nip. Their food can be expensive! Do shop around, I do! Thank goodness I know the distributor since they're friends of mine so my price is less then half what you would pay for online or in pet shops and we shop around for fresh produce.

yup shoppin around and i never really get the same fresh for nut, as she tends to love it one day an not touch it the next day, so she generally gets different fresh each day, as well as her pellets
(that she really won't touch unless there is nothing else, and the bowl is secured, as she will throw the whole thing about!!)

example, she loves corn on the cob, she likes to pick each corn off an will eat only the kernel, and if she has had enough she'll pull kernels off anyway

if i mix her fresh with the pellets, she will pick all the pellets out 1st

so the way i see it, is as long as its on offer, she will through out day have a nibble on things, i've even mixed pellets with a smear of peanut butter, an you've guessed it, she will lick of the peanut butter an drop pellet out of her beak lol and these are harrisons fine

nuts spoilt an is acting out this way as she knows there will be something different later, when she sits with us for dinner, i did try not sharing dinner with her once, result was she started shrieking as she ate some of her pellets, to me it looked like she was crying into her food bowl, and she rarely shrieks
