Food in water bowl

Ive heard about water bottles growing bacteria inside of them. My GW does that I guess he likes to soak his harrisons before he eats it lol

If you don't change the water or wash them.
The very same bacteria also grows in open water bowls.

Water bottles need to be sterilized every week , much like the water dishes. I also use automatic waterer for my aviary birds, i have to "flush" it every week with bleach to sanitize it.
You could also try using 2 water dishes, one near the food bowl and one away. However i've found they usually only use the one near the food dish, regardless if it has "soup" in it.

Mango keeps putting food in his water bowl on purpose, weft is he doing this? Its annoying because its making it impossible to make sure he has fresh water, as soon ass I change it, it's dirty.

Two of my birds do this and one doesn't. I believe they like the wet softness of the food. I guess it would be like eating dry Cheerios all the time without milk.:rainbow1:
My food and water bowls are on opposite sides also but they bring it over just to mess up the water for me. LOL

Many of our birds do it too- eccies put mango in the water, amongst other things. The worst offender, from the point of view of keeping water clean, is the corella. He puts heaps of seeds in his water, even when the water dish is as far away from the seed as I can get it. The plumhead also dunks much of its food. We stopped giving it seed, apart from a large "seed bell" because much of it ended up in its water, and he'she would have a wet head from fishing it out! It only fished about 10% of the seed out though. Quite often, if it's out of it's cage, and he/she is given a dry snack, it'll fly to the top of eccy's cage (which has a perch and two bowls) dunk the snack, then fly somewhere else to consume it. Funny to watch :)

I haven't yet found a bottle that works- those designed for rodents seemed to leak badly, while one I made up myself out of water pipe and chicken waterers had limited success with 'tiels- they never figured them out. The bottles are also difficult to mount.
