Flighted bird indoors

Hello Stephen I am Dani, So sorry to have mislabled you. I just bought a parrot stand from someone with a VERY similar name to your screen name. Funny thing is that I just intentionally did NOT call Phlox "she" because I wasn't sure, then I turn around and do it to you. Very sorry about that.

Yes, most breeders do not allow the bird to fledge properly, which has become a sticking point for me. I will not buy a pet from someone who won't leave the bird flighted when requested by the buyer. I recently removed my name from a waiting list for a Blue Headed Pionus for this very reason when the breeder would only agree to let the bird "have his first 2 or 3 flights" and then be clipped. It is MUCH less convenient to raise birds that can fly, but I believe it is vital based on research and personal experience.

Hahaha! No offense taken, Dani. Pleasure to meet you! My username comes from a character in Jamaican folk tales. Originally from Africa, in fact, but I digress...

. I grew up in Aberdeen SD, so not too far from you. Although, since leaving I have realized that while in the mid west "not too far" can mean 7-8 hours, in other places it means different things. For example I had someone say she lived too far away from me for me to purchase a pair of GCCs here in Hawaii. How far you ask? 35-40 minute drive... I am not even kidding.

Interesting enough this is something i have just learned of people that live in other parts of the world. That many people think that driving an hour means you must be spending the weekend somewhere.....like it such a great distance.

We drive all over the place, so odd to me to try and think from other peoples point of view on stuff like that. Its interesting though!

I will keep an eye out for someone around here, though i do think i will have to travel some to find something.

Probably. Just be careful. Because there are so few exotic birds in the area, I find "backwoods" breeders can get sloppy because there is little to no competition, and nothing for customers to compare it to.
