Hi all!

I was watching this Magnolia Bird farm video on youtube in which the lady explains that cockatiels needs 30-40% straight canary seeds as the protein in their diet. I feed my birds the normal Prestige Premium Mix from Loro Parque among other things and haven't known seeds individually by name.

I'm in India and by the time I translated Straight Canary Seeds into hindi for the shop owner and checked that word back in English, I've ended up with Flax seeds. Do cockatiels eat Flax seeds? Like, are they straight canary seeds? Just checking first as I don't want to feed them something that shouldn't be.

Here's what I have been given.

On the following link, it says you can include it in their diet.

Flax seed - called - alsi seed in Hindi.

Thanks for all advice. :yellow1:

List of Safe Foods, Safe Fruits and Vegetables for Cockatiels and Pet Birds. What foods are safe to feed cockatie

If you are having trouble with translation, maybe this site can help Google Translate

Good luck.....

I add flax seed to my seed for my birds, if it's not already in it.

I read you are only suppose to add no more than 2% into their diet.
it improves there feathers and over all health.
I noticed a difference when I added it, their feathers appeared shinier.

Thanks all, for the replies!

I put in some flax seeds into the bird mix and my cockatiels have been eating them with gusto! :D

Of course, I kept it in the ratio suggested of 2-4% of the total seed diet.

Cheers & Thanks again.

Sure! Here are some pictures of my birds. The Cage is actually filled with even more toys & perches over this past week and it's raised to window level so the birds have a great time watching the sunset. For a couple months, the cages were on the floor as I was experimenting different ways to inter-connect more cages so they get more space to move in. It's hard to get good sized flight cages locally and so I got these sturdy puppy cages and combined them.
