Crimson bellied conure.
Hi all. I have a CBC (crimson bellied conure) who I rescued and is a special needs parrot. I am looking for a padded flat perch for him to sleep on at night.
He has several wood and rope perches he uses during the day but will not sleep on them. I also have a padded sleep hut/tent that he wants nothing to do with. I am looking for a flat perch that is padded to see if he will sleep on it. He sleeps hanging on the side of his cage at night with the good foot. If anyone knows where I can get a padded flat perch please let me know. Thanks!

I don't think they make a "flat perch", but they do make platforms for cages that are "flat" (Kiwi has one, and loves it). Or, you could always go to the hardware store and have them cut down one of the scrap pieces of lumber to your specifications and make your own. Use a piece of polar fleece or a towel to wrap it in so it's soft. Just be sure to get hardware that does not contain zinc.

id go to the store and buy a 1" by 6" peice of wood and cut a length off of it, then wrap it in fleece as stated. That is what i have done for a couple of my speacial need guys!

I've never seen a commercial, padded, handicap perch, though I've seen homemade ramps & sleep platforms.....

Why not make one.....home depot & lowes both sell small pieces of flat stock, from 2" wide to 6 " wide & in lengths up to 48" and thicknesses of 3/8" & 1/2".....not knowing what kind of/size cage we're talking about, you could use angle brackets , machine screws & wingnuts for easy installation & removal, then make or have someone make 2-3 terry cloth sleeves to slip over the perch.....one man-sized bath towel should make 3-4 covers.....the sleeve is reverse stitched (inside out), slipped over the perch & kept from moving by a couple of thumb-tacks to the bottom of the perch.....sleeved allows you to remove the tacks, roll the sleeve over & use the other side before washing.....

For the perch, I'd use poplar...both stores carry it...it's a medium hardwood, but soft enough for thumb tacks or push pins.....just a thought that popped into my head while nothing important was going on.....

While lowes is your best bet for stainless nuts, bolts & screws, I don't think they carry stainless angle brackets, but a google search of "stainless steel angle brackets" with or without the quotes will get you all kinds of sources.....

I was going to suggest something like what Peeker mentioned...

Perch Factory: Corner Shelf Bird Perches | Parrot Platform Perches

Cover with fleece! And make a few different covers, so if one gets dirty, you can remove it and replace with a clean one while you wash the dirty one!

Or, you could always get a large piece of PVC pipe (well, large enough for your conure to fit into it! - may also come in cardboard). You could use part of a pants leg, long sleeve shirt or a sweater to line it with, or fleece, once again! If using cloth of any type, make sure it doesn't rip or get any holes. The sleeve/leg would need to be over twice the length of the tube you are using, and you would turn it inside out to cover both the inside as well as the outside...

Or, there's always the option of a jolly ball!
